He glanced at her, noticing that she looked extremely confused and not sure if she should ask for help. He smiled lightly for her. "Okay fine I'll explain it to you." He started pointing at each button and explaining to her what it would do, smiling on the inside a bit and he was kinda glad it was just them in the common room. He actually hoped she would understand the concept.
-
She nodded, seeming to understand it better. Nora held the controller tightly, choosing a random character and then watching as he chose a location for the virtual fight. As soon as the timer ticked down to zero and let them play, she found herself spamming the buttons. She wasn't really sure what she was doing or if she was winning, but it was kind of fun.
-
He kept trying to block and fight off most of her attacks during the game, but literally her button mashing was kicking his ass. He gritted his teeth together and kept trying to use strategy, but it really wasn't working. In the end she won two out of the three matches, ultimately winning. He threw the controller and crossed his arms in a pout. "Goddamn it.."
-
She stared at the screen for a moment, confused. Then, as everything started to connect, she started laughing. "Yes! I'm good at the video games!" She turned, smiling at him, then realized he was pouting. She didn't mean to make him feel bad about himself twice in one night, so she leaned over and nudged him. "Hey, I guess you're just too good of a teacher, right? Wanna have a rematch?"
-
He watched her celebrate, slightly smiling a bit that she was extremely happy about winning, he blushed deeply when she finally looked at him after her slight celebration and when she nudged him. "I-I guess I'm a good teacher, really you were just mashing buttons, but I'm gonna beat you this time." He picked up the controller off the floor and started the match over again, which didn't end in the same result, which caused him to go hard core on the game.
-
"You're on," she replied, leaning forward as they selected characters and started the battle. This time, in her attempt to be strategic, she was nowhere near as good as he was. In fact, she lost all three rounds. As soon as they finished, Nora flopped back against the couch, sighing in defeat.
-
He chuckled lightly and smiled at her. "Sorry, but you wanted a rematch chick." Went back to the game systems start menu and leaned against the couch. "So how did you end up here...? At the school I mean, not how you um...turned." he coughed trying not to feel like an idiot for asking. "Sorry if its really personal, I'm just curious."
-
She tensed as she processed what he said, then relaxed a bit when she realized he wasn't asking about how she was turned. "I... I'm 426 years old, the idea of this school is a little over 1000. I was part of the group who petitioned for Bitten entry around 350 years ago. I'm here because I proved to the Purebloods running it that we're worth more than servitude. You've heard of the research department, right?"
-
He listened carefully, he was genuinely and extremely interested in what she had to say. He kinda did wanted to know how she had turned, but that seemed like a big trust thing and they weren't at that level yet. Of course he had heard a lot of vampires stories from many people and many different vampires. He nodded lightly when she mentioned the research department. "Yeah, I've heard a few things about it, but I don't know a lot."
-
This was way easier to explain than how she'd turned. Even with Willow, it'd taken a few years for her to grow comfortable with the thought of sharing. She absentmindedly played with bottom of her shirt as she spoke.
"It's a facility for experienced Bitten to perform all sorts of research and record keeping. Because our bodies don't actually age, we couldn't go into human facilities and be taken seriously. I mean, really? Who's going to let a kid who looks seventeen help them discover a cure for cancer? I'm actually in the history department, as the linguistics specialist. I speak more languages than you could imagine, many of them dead and preserved by my ability to record and remember them." She smiled, thinking about the work she'd done. "For example, I'm one of three people in the world who can communicate with werewolves. A decade or two ago, I was asked to help relocate one of the largest colonies in the world." -
He listened to her as she talked about what she did, which was literally an interesting story in all. His eyes gleemed with excitement as he listened on. Of course he really hadn't done anything with his life except help with a few of his father's experiments and taking care of his sister when their father usually would go on his business trips. "Geez you've done so much in your really long life." He smiled warmly. "And all I want to do is revolutionize the food world."
-
"Well yeah, 426 years is a really long time. People still treat me like I'm 17, though. And I guess you're only as old as people treat you." She looked down at the controller, then leaned forward to set it on the coffee table. "Wanna watch a movie now?" she asked, taking a cookie.
-
He nodded in agreement at her earlier comment before she mentioned the movie thing. He thought for a moment and nodded. "Yeah, I mean sure lets watch one." He then moved the joystick on his controller and chose Netflix off of the choices. "I wonder how the party is going now." He didn't mean to say it out loud, but he was curious, wondering if any of the humans that were still there were okay.
