Douglas ate slowly and in a refined way, trying to hide the fact that he wouldn't be eating much at all. People were right, the crepes were fantastic. After a few bites, he offered Oliver a taste of them. Two demons, an elderly couple, walked into the little cafe and had a seat a few tables away.
-
Oliver didn't really notice the couple walk in as he leaned over and took a small piece of the crepe, popping it into his mouth. Despite his father's great wealth, he had never had one before. He had to agree that it did taste quite good. He took a small sip of his water, glancing over at the other demons sat in the cafe. It was just so odd to him that they were all speaking in that way and they all looked calm.
-
(I have plans for tonight in rp time, so do you mind if we sort of time skip around the day)
He took another sip of the coffee, then spoke as he cut off another piece of the crepes. "So, the bookstore I was planning on going to has books in English. You might want to pick one out while we're there, they have some books from your world you should recognize." Of course, Douglas already had quite a few at home, but he was protective of his collection... and besides, they were either nonfiction or ancient stories. -
(Sure thing~ I have no plans xD)
Oliver listened as he finished off the rest of his omelette and took small sips of his glass of water. "Okay, that sounds nice enough," Oliver responded with a smile. He loved to read, the only thing he loved to do more than that was draw and cuddle. He quickly finished off his food and water a minute later. -
It didn't take Douglas long to finish off his own meal, so in a few minutes he went up to pay, speaking in calm tones with his waitress. Even though he didn't show it, he could tell that she knew, her smug smile giving everything away. As they headed over to the market, he tried to forget her comment.
-
Oliver hummed and waited beside Douglas as he paid for the food, noticing the smug smile on her face as he did so. He gave her a confused look as he left, walking beside the demon as they headed towards wherever he had chosen to go next.
-
The outdoor market was hardly crowded at this time of day, meaning that the two of them got the first pick at a lot of foods. Douglas quickly selected the native produce he desired, describing the taste of each one to Oliver. When they moved to the import goods from Oliver's own world, Douglas eagerly followed him around, watching curiously as he made selections.
-
Oliver watched the demon's every move, trying to see if there was even a slight difference in the way humans acted and the way demons acted. There was of course looks and the language and the diets so far. Oliver listened, curious, as Douglas described each food type he picked up. When they reached the section he was familiar in, he eagerly grabbed strawberries and kiwi, his favorites.
-
As they were shopping, quarreling broke out a few vendors away. The seller accused a customer of stealing, but the customer claimed to be innocent. As tensions escalated between the two demons, a crowd started to form. An older demon suggested that the two fight, and whoever won would be believed. Not wanting to get involved in the violent tension, Douglas took Oliver by the hand and pulled him away. Violence only led to more violence in Seventh Circle.
Once they left the market, the demon turned to his servant and held out his bag of groceries, waiting expectantly for him to take it. -
Oliver was a little bit confused by the fighting that was going on, wondering how someone could be believed just because they were stronger than the other demon. Oliver kinda really wanted to watch the fight that was going on, but let Douglas take him by the hand and lead him out of the marker. Oliver took the bag of groceries and held them tightly, careful not to drop it.
-
Once they reached the bookstore, he led the boy inside and started chatting excitedly with the goat-esque demon running it. He appeared much older than anyone they'd met so far, his beard going grey from more than it being his fur color. He called for a young girl, who he proudly told them was his granddaughter. She was similar in appearance to a unicorn, and her hooves clicked on the floor beneath them as she went to find Douglas's book.
"You should look around," the green demon told Oliver. "Everyone here speaks English, I think. Besides, we're their only customers right now." Then, he turned and started chatting with the goat once again. -
Oliver listening as the demon chatted with the goat looking man in the bookstore. He noted that the man looked so old and wondered how much older than Douglas he was. He hummed and swayed from side to side as they talked, eyeing the young girl with interest. She looked like one of the horse like creatures he saw in story books, but couldn't quite put his finger on what she was. He grinned when the demon said he could go look around. He hurried off, excited to explore the bookstore.
-
The two discussed all sorts of boring, scholarly things until the unicorn brought up Douglas's book. He thanked her and she joined the conversation, clearly knowing just as much about the trade as her grandfather. He waited patiently for Oliver to come back, thinking that he could introduce him to the others.
-
Oliver ran his finger along the spine of all the books, reading the names of them before grabbing one in English titled Drawing Demons . He giggled a little, thinking about the title as he hurried back to where Douglas was, the book in one hand and groceries from the market in the other. "Can I get this one? Pleaseee?" He asked, looking up at the demon through his lashes, glancing at the older demon and the unicorn like girl.
-
"Sure," he said, glancing at the book. He didn't give the book itself much thought, and paid for their purchases. After bidding the shopkeepers goodbye, they took to the streets once again.
"So, Oliver? Did you need anything else, while we're out?" Douglas asked, looking around. He held the books protectively.
