He nodded. "I guess, but the information here doesn't contain secrets for you to know. Unless, of course, you don't mind trading for some of your own." A smile spread across the green demon's face for a moment, then he pulled open a drawer, retrieving a yellow, plastic figure from it. It was hollow, had an orangish beak, and resembled a somewhat familiar bird, but Douglas wasn't sure. It looked more like his neighbor than any species he knew. "What is this?"
-
(My guesses on objects might suck, bare with me here.)
"I don't have any secrets to share, open book," he said softly, eyebrows raised up for dramatic effect. He smiled at the demon as he pulled out the yellow, plastic figure. He knew that it was a bird, but what exact kind, that he couldn't quite put his finger on. "I'm not a hundred percent sure, but I think it might be a canary?" -
*rubber duck
(Never mind, I'll just say what they are instead of describing me from his point of view)
Part of Douglas doubted that. He stared at the object, squishing it again as he had before so that it squeaked. He reached for a notepad and a fountain pen, scrawling the name in English and in a Demonic phonetic translation. "So... what, exactly, is the function of a rubber duck?" -
(I'm such a dumb---.)
Oliver let out a little squeal and a childlike giggle when the demon squished the rubber duck. "You usually use it in water, like a bathtub or in a pool. They're really cute, I love them," he said softly with a small smile. -
(No, shhhh)
"So it's a toy. Interesting..." he murmured, writing down the notes in both languages, this time able to translate directly. Setting the duck aside, he pulled out a slinky, holding it up so that it fell to the floor. "I don't understand what this is for. Is it a machine part?" -
"Mhm!" He hummed, tugging on the sleeve of his jacket absentmindedly. He frowned when he saw the slinky. "That's a toy as well. It's supposed to be able to kinda "walk" on its own, but it never really works. I used to get my hand stuck in those all the f---ing time." He paused after her cursed, not sure if the demon was okay with him saying things like that.
-
"Huh. How do they walk?" He bunched the thing up, careful not to get it tangled. He set the toy on the table and flipped to the next page of his notepad, making a note of the metal spring that seemed to be able to walk. "Actually, show me later. I'm curious about this one." He retrieved a flashlight from the drawer. It couldn't be a toy.
-
"It's hard to explain, they're kinda confusing," he responded, looking up at the older. He hummed as he watched the demon write down notes on the object and brings out another. A smile lit up on his face when he saw the flashlight. "The flashlight. It's not really a toy, some use it as one, though. You do thisss," he said, leaning forward and clicking the button on the side so the light turned on. "And light comes out. It helps you see in the dark. I love them because I hate the dark."
-
Douglas aimed the flashlight around the room for a bit, then turned it off and set it down. "So... kind of like this, then?" He brought his hands together, then slowly pulled them open so that they made a hollow space. In it, a greenish orb started to grow, its light become brighter as the size increased. When it was roughly the size of a pomegranate, he tossed it up into the air where it floated calmly.
-
Oliver's eyes went wide as he looked at the demon's hands, amazed at how the orb grew in size and began to grow brighter. He watched as i flew up into the air and floated. "That's amazing. How can you do that? Just magic?" He asked, keeping his eyes on the green orb.
-
"Just magic," he said with a smile, reaching into the air to gently push it towards the servant. "You can touch it, it won't hurt you. Oh, and I have one last object I was curious about." He reached into the drawer.
-
Oliver reluctantly reached forward and gently took the orb into his hands. He cupped his hands around it, looking at the ball of light with amazement. "This is so cool.." He looked up, waiting for the demon to take out the last item.
-
Douglas pulled a slender object from the drawer and set it on his desk. No one he'd met so far could tell him what it was. He had a few assumptions, but other demons suggested otherwise, which made him doubt his theories. He found the magenta vibrator to be nothing short of perplexing, but surely it had some human importance. Oliver had to know what it was.
-
Oliver continued to play with the small orb and giggled as he threw it back up into the air, turning back to Douglas. He stopped giggling when he saw the object he had set down on his desk. Of course Oliver was familiar with them, he was human of course. He had even had some of his own at home he secretly snuck in. Oliver's face turned bright pink. "That's..a vibrator. They're supposed to make you feel good, I guess.." He muttered under his breath.
-
"So you're familiar with them. How do they work? Could you demonstrate?" Douglas was elated. Finally, someone who could help him out! He wrote down the item's name, then looked back up to Oliver eagerly.
