Lovino's brow furrowed in confusion. "Why would you run away?" He asked. For so long, all he'd wanted was to see his family. Antonio had simply abandoned his? He didn't understand.
-
Antonio shifted a little, so his elbows were on the bed and his hands on Lovino's waist. He made little circles with his thumbs, moving around the fabric of the Italian's shirt. "I wasn't taken good care of there. My mother worked at home, she made jewlery, and my father drank a lot of whiskey. When my mother passed away- it wasn't anything my father had done, she was just getting older- my father kept forgetting to buy food and we were running out of money. So I left."
-
"Oh..." Lovino frowned again. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bring up anything bad." He leaned into Antonio's touch, already regretting prying. He was supposed to make Antonio happy, not upset.
-
Antoio smiled, shrugging. "It's okay, I don't mind telling you." He sighed, letting the silence settle for a moment. "Tell me about you, Lovi."
-
Lovino laid his head back down to avoid Antonio's eyes. "There not much to tell. My parents raised me and my little brother here at the circus. They wanted us to take over some day. My father wasn't happy here, and although I don't remember him very well, we weren't close, but he must not have liked me much, because when they disappeared a few years ago they left me behind."
-
"But you are taking care of things around here." Antonio moved one of his hands up to comb through the back of Lovino's hair. "You're the ringmaster of your very own circus, and that's a pretty important job they gave to you. Maybe they knew you'd do it well."
-
"They could've said goodbye though...they could asked if I wanted to go with them...they took my brother..." He sighed. "But he was always better at things than me, I can understand why they took him instead of me."
-
Antonio blinked his eyes open, gazing down at the innocent Italian on his chest. He couldn't imagine why anyone would leave someone like him. "I'm glad you're here with me right now."
-
Lovino closed his eyes and smiled softly, breifly. "So am I." He paused, unsure of what he was about to say next, but he steeled himself and kept talking. "...I think you're the first person I've ever loved." He whispered.
-
Antonio smiled softly in the dark room. "I feel the same. I love you," he said in a shy voice, like he was worried about someone else hearing him.
-
Lovino smiled for real that time. It felt so good to be loved, to know that someone, somewhere, cared about him. "I wish we could just stay like this forever." He sighed. Just the two of them, able to be together without anyone else to judge then or threaten them or hurt them.
-
Antonio nodded in agreement, slowly finding himself inclined to yawn but wanting desperately to not fall asleep. "Maybe one day."
-
Lovino was beginning to grow tired again. "One day," he repeated in agreement, closing his eyes again.
-
Antonio could hear the sleepiness in Lovino's voice. "Tired?" He asked quietly. Once again, he was resolving to go to sleep here instead of his own wagon.
-
"Just a little," He said, yawning again. He opened one eye to glance at the clock and scowled, sitting up. "It's late...you should go...you need to get some sleep for the performance tomorrow..." He spoke reluctantly, obvious disappointment in his voice.
