Lovino frowned and laid back, trying to think of what might be upsetting the large elephant. "Well you did feed him, so it's not that...maybe he's not comfortable with all the new tricks yet?" He suggested, remembering how nervous the animals had seemed in yesterday's performance.
-
"Maybe," Antonio breathed, laying down on the bed beside Lovino. He laid on his side, facing the Italian. "I hope that's not it, because I'll feel pretty bad if it is."
-
Lovino shook his head. "Don't feel bad, it's your job to teach them that stuff. Just give it time." He said, trying to comfort the Spaniard, though it wasn't something that came naturally.
-
The Spaniard thought about it for a second, then shrugged. "I guess. But I still hope I wasn't pressuring him to much."
-
Lovino was about to reply, but was cut off by another yawn. He snuggled into the bed a little, trying to keep his eyes open. "Not your fault," He mumbled sleepily.
-
Antonio, still facing the Italian, snuggled up close to him, putting one arm around him. "Mhm?" He hummed, gazing at the sleepy ringmaster's eyes.
-
Lovino, already half-unconscious, snuggled up close, nuzzling into Antonio's chest. "Don't go," He mumbled, closing his eyes. He knew Antonio would have to leave eventually, so they wouldn't get caught, but he wanted to at least fall asleep knowing he was there.
-
Antonio smiled, closing his eyes as well. He knew he'd have to leave soon, at the very latest before morning, so he shouldn't fall asleep. "I'll stay right here," he agreed, gently rubbing little circles on the back of Lovino's neck with his thumb.
-
Lovino hummed a small noise of approval, relaxing into Antonio's touch. Soon enough he was asleep, still nuzzled close to Antonio.
-
It was only a few minutes later that Antonio gave in to his own sleepiness, falling asleep right there with Lovino instead of going back to his own wagon.
-
Despite being held in Antonio's arms as he slept, Lovino's dreams were less than peaceful. Antonio was on the ground, being kicked and heated and jeered at by a crowd of the other performers. Lovino called out for them to stop, and tried to reach him, but the crowd held him back, throwing him to the ground. He and Antonio were both lifted by the crowd, suddenly shoved to a wooden stage. No, not a stage...a hanging platform, Lovino realized. A rope, a noose, was being brought towards his neck. He could hear Antonio crying out in pain, the crowd laughing and cheering, but one sound stood out among the rest. A sickening snap, and then all Locino could see was Antonio's limp body, hanging from the rope... He shot awake with a small cry, sitting up. Tears were streaming down his face and his heart was pounding.
-
Amtonio, in his dreamless sleep, felt the warm mass next to him suddenly move. The Spaniard, startled by this, snapped into consciousness, blinking away in the dark to see Lovino sitting up. "Lovi," he mumbled sleepily, "que esta la problema?"
-
Lovino was trembling, trying- but failing- to stop the tears running over his cheeks. He didn't respond to Antonio, just shook his head, the image of Antonio's motionless hanged body still vivid in his mind.
-
"Mm, Loviiii," Antonio whined, though he sat up, seeing something was wrong. He brushed the messy hair from Lovino's face, kissing his cheeks. "What's wrong?" He repeated, this time awake enough to speak in the correct language. "Bad dream?"
-
Lovino nodded silently, leaning against Antonio and sniffling, trying to calm down. He hoped he never had to really see Antonio in pain like that.
