"Okay... I don't have much of a reason to live, yet, so I don't care if I get shot to death. It'd be better than tortured to death. Plus I'm a little bit of a neat freak..." He responded, laughing at himself. He would care more, but there is nobody to live for, that he knows. His parents are long gone and love is not a familiar term.
-
Melanie threw Damien a sorrowful look; her eyes had gone dull. She knows how he feels. Before she was even brought into the facility she went through depression, she even started cutting in places that no one saw. She never told anyone, not even Morgan. She wanted to cut so bad while testing, but f course she she couldn't. Morgan stayed silent as he looked between the two. "Live for us then, will you?" Melanie questioned softly. "We could use your help."
-
Damien smirked, an odd feeling rushing through him then disepating. "Alright, but you had better do the same for me." He said tossing a small wad of mud at Melanie, missing and hitting Morgan instead. "Oops..." Damien burst into laughter.
-
A small smile crossed Melanie's face; it had been a long time since she smiled. "Promise," she says.
"Jesus," Morgan mumbled while wiping the mud off of him. Melanie looked at the fire and she move a little closer to it. She was quite cold in fact, but she didn't feel like complaining about it. -
"That's the first smile I've seen you smile. Mission accomplished! I don't know why, but seeing people smile makes me happy. Especially girls. Oh! I want to show you two a trick. You'll have to sit by me or on the same side of the fire at least. First off, what's your favorite animal?" Damien asked Malenie first.
-
Morgan threw a look at Damien. A look that screamed 'I don't trust you.' Melanie on the other hand smiled a little wider and she moved closer to Damien so they were on the same side of the fire, like he told them to. "A raven," she answers his question.
-
"Oh, that's a great choice." Damien held his arms up and manipulated the fire. "By adding my shadow manipulation I can do this." He moved his arms more, a black bird appearing amongst the flames. It flew and flew, ocassionally he'd make it swoop down by one of them. "Would you like to hold it? Common Morgan, what do you wanna see?"
-
Melanie laughed as she watched the bird, her voice was strained from the lack of laughing for so long. "That's amazing!" She explains. Morgan watched his cousin and crossed his arms. He was glad to see her happy; he cared for her and he was glad to see she was still happy enough to laugh. When Damien spoke his head snapped towards him. "What?" He asked.
-
Damien landed the bird on Melanie's shoulder and let it rest there. "What would you like to see in the fire? Oh, don't worry Melanie, this is controlled, the fire can't hurt you."
-
Melanie smiled and she reached hand up to pet the bird but stopped just a few inches away from it. "Home," Morgan spoke up bluntly. Melanie rolled her eyes at he cousin. "Morgan," she says, the smile gone from her face. "We're free, can you not act like an a--hole?"
-
"Wait, I think I can manage something. Morgan, I'm guessing that you want to live in a place free of being taken back, full of simplicity and commoness. A farm perhaps? Simple life and place to put your power to use. Also a place far from others where you can protect Melanie." As he described what his guess of what Morgan wanted was, Damien created a fantastic scene of crops, landscapes, and Morgan hugging Melanie. "This will be yours, I promise I'll help."
-
Melanie and Morgan were speechless. They looked at the fire. Tears shimmered in Melanie's eyes and she did her best to hold them back. Morgan didn't know what to say, he did feel like an a--hole like Melanie pointed out before. "It's amazing," Melanie speaks up.
-
"You to share this dream. A place far and free. I do too. Everyone at the compound does. That's suffered that is. Especially those of us like Melanie and I, who had undergone some of the worst testing. People that had to deal with lower levels just want to be free and normal, perhaps have a family to care for like anyone with a heart does." Damien felt oddly emotional. He was confused and felt something on his face. He brushed it and realized it was a tear. "That's different." He quietly mumbled.
-
(bump)
-
Melanie saw the tear stream down Damien's face. She couldn't help but feel bad for him. She moved a bit closer to Damien and she put her arm around him. She hope that she was making him feel better.
Anger boiled inside of Morgan at Damien's words. No, the anger wasn't at Damien, but the people who put them in that situation. "We have to find someone," he speaks up. "We had to tell the world what they did to us, what they're still doing to other kids."
