He eventually crept out of the bushes, and followed the creature. It had slipped through a bathroom window left open on the side of the house. He snuck up behind it as it stood in the hallway, watching the human girl.
-
Ella glanced away from the screen when she heard a slight sound from the hall. She stood up, the blanket still wrapped around herself, and crept towards the sound. "...Hello?" She called tentatively.
-
It stepped forward, still concealed in shadows. "Hello, why are you up so late?" It mimicked her mother's voice as Rory took another step, then reached quickly and quietly into his back pocket.
-
Ella gave a little huff and glanced back at her show before turning back to the shadowy shape. "Oh Mommy, well...I had a bad dream and I couldn't fall back asleep." She improvised with an innocent little smile. "You're home early. Where's Daddy?"
-
It took another step forward. "Daddy will be here in a bit, don't worry." As it started to reach out, Rory threw himself forward and wrapped his arms around it, pulling it back and stabbing what he'd pulled from his pocket into its chest. After struggling with it for a while, it gave up and collapsed on top of him, breathing its last breaths. He struggled out from under it and ripped his weapon, a short, wooden stake, from its chest.
-
Ella let out a shriek and jumped back, staring at both the collapsed creature and the boy with wide eyes. "Who are you?" She asked. "Where's Mommy? How did you get in?" She fired a seemingly endless barrage of questions at the boy.

also he looks like he's 20 or 21
He looked up at the little girl, seeming to have forgotten she was there for a moment. He wiped the creature's blood off of his hands and the stake onto his shirt, then stuck it back in his pocket. He smiled at the human, forgetting that his fangs weren't normal. "Uh... hi, sorry. Your mom is fine. That I know of. That thing isn't one of your parents, if you're wondering." He stood up and looked down at the body. "I'm not sure what it is, really." -
She gaped at his fangs and the blood on his shirt. She walked up to him and stared up at him with wide eyes. "You're weird." She stated. "Why are your teeth so pointy?" She asked.
-
"Oh. Uh..." He'd been following the creatures for a year or two, and knew by now that they disintegrated before he could actually figure out what they were. He glanced down at it, noticing that the process was starting, and stepped past the girl, into her living room. "What's your name?"
-
"Ella." She answered proudly. She watched as the shadowy creature from before started to almost...fall apart. Like it was made of sand or something. She looked between the disintegrating body and the pointy-fanged man. "Was that a bad guy?" She asked. She suddenly looked a little anxious. "Was he gonna hurt me?"
-
He nodded. "Yeah. They like to hurt people. Good thing I got here just in time, right?" He walked over and looked at the TV. "Where are your parents?"
-
"They're out. They stay out late a lot." She explained, leaping back onto couch and snuggling up. "Thanks for coming, Mr...uh...what's your name?"
-
"Rory," he murmured, still distracted by the TV. His stomach growled a bit. "Uh... do you mind if I grab something to eat from your kitchen?"
-
Ella nodded and stood up again, padding bare-footed into the kitchen and pulling opened the fridge. "What do you want, Rory?" She asked with a smile at her rather unusual new friend.
-
He followed behind, and grabbed a piece of meat, still wrapped in plastic on a styrofoam tray. He then sat down at the table and glanced over at her. "Why are you up so late?" he asked as he unwrapped his snack.
