He smiled and held up the bottle of wine. "Well we have something nice to go with our dinner tonight when it's done don't we?" He chuckled a bit. "I could help you."
-
"No, no, you've been working all day." She protested. "It's almost finished anyhow. You should sit, relax." She half-ordered with a small smile, before turning back to her meal-in-the-making and fussing with ingredients.
-
He placed the wine bottle on the table and walked over to her. "Are you sure?" He watched her fuss over the the ingredients.
-
"Yes! Yes, I'm sure." She insisted, shooing him away with her hands, and exasperated smile on her face. "Just give me five minutes to get everything cleaned up."
-
*an exasperated)
-
He smiled and nodded. "I'll be in the dining room with the wine." He picked up the wine bottle again and walked to the dining room, sitting at the front of the table.
-
Exactly five minutes later Maria entered the dining room, carrying the chicken on a platter while balancing a bowl of salad in the crook of one arm. She carefully set the chicken down on the table (which she'd already set) and nearly dropped the salad, but she managed to make a last minute save and place the bowl safely beside the main course. She sat down across from him.
-
He smiled a bit and popped open the wine bottle. "You really should have told me that you cooked." He took a piece of chicken and then some of the salad. He then poured the wine into two seperate glasses.
-
"Sorry," She murmured, making a plate of her own. She eyed the wine with a slightly unsure gaze. She had it before, of course, but not recently, and she'd heard enough crazy drunk stories to be a little cautious.
-
He smiled more and laughed. "It's okay Maria. I would have found out sooner or later." He placed the cup near her plate. "Drink it, it's really good wine." He soon started eating his food and taking small sips from his wine glass.
-
Still looking a little hesitant, she reached out and took the glass delicately in her slender fingers, slowly taking a sip. He was right, it was good. It was slightly sweet, and went down easy, while still maintaining the slight tang of alcohol.
-
He grinned and kept eating. "You're really good at cooking." He looked at her and took another sip of his wine. "You should cook more."
-
She smiled genuinely at his compliment. "Thank you." She took a bite of her own and swallowed before speaking again. "I cod start cooking every night, if you want. For when you get back." She glanced at the mark on wrist. "It is what I'm here for, isn't it?" She said in a notably quieter voice.
-
He stopped and sadness flashed over his face. He placed a napkin over his half finished food and stood up. "I'm sorry...it was a way to keep you safe." He soon walked out of the dining room and didn't speak a word on the way out.
-
Maria swore under her breath and stood up, following after him quickly. She hadn't mean to offend him, she really hadn't. She silently cursed her own stupidity and rushed after his retreating form. "Sebastian!" She called, forgetting his title. She needed to make him understand that she didn't blame him.
