"Do you not trust magic?" Rona asked. Then she reached over and practically patted him down, searching for a coin. When she found one, she placed it on the table. She really needed to work on asking before she touched someone.
-
He growled lowly. "No, I don't like magic, I also don't like that you really don't ask permission before you touch someone." He blinked. "What are you going to do?"
-
"I'm sorry, it's a bad tendency." She tapped the coin twice, and it doubled. "Magic isn't entirely bad. If you remember last night, when I figured out your name... I also figured out a few other things, one of them being that you're a little short on money." She drew a circle around the coins, and tapped it, causing the amount to double again. "Regardless of whether or not you dislike magic, I assure you the only catch to this is the chance that you'll see me as the magic I use, rather than the person I am."
-
His eyes widened a bit at the coins, but he soon calmed himself. "What do you want? Usually people like you want something out of this."
-
"Teach me something, anything. How to steal. How you live your life. It doesn't matter to me what it is, as long as it's something. I... I currently can't live without magic. My teacher just died, and if I ever forget something and can't remember it because I can't find it or it wasn't written down... I don't know what I'd do." She held out her hand. "In exchange, I'll do whatever magic you want, spare killing or bringing someone back to life, or you can take anything from the cottage, except for my books."
-
He leaned against a wall. "Why? You have powers that could sneak you into any house. Why do you want to learn?"
-
"I've learned everything I could in being in here. But I don't know how... normal people live. Like, what do you do? How does it work? The times in my life when I haven't had magic are the times when I was too sick to even leave my bed. I'm not sure how to exist without it." She frowned. "I feel like you could show me. You seem like an average thief."
-
He frowns lightly and shook his head. "I'm a expert thief, I'm not a very normal person. I have bounties on my head in Rome and in London. I'm not your average person. I steal things that I think are worth value. And your question on how it works? you have to be very quiet and sneaky."
-
"Don't tell me, show me. Take me with you next time you have to go steal something or whatever."
-
He frowned more. "If we get caught, you're taking the blame for it. I can't get a job information from here, most people don't know this place is here."
-
"How far is it to the closest place that you can get information? And if you're as good as you say, we won't get caught." She sighed and grabbed the ball again.
-
"A few days away. I am good, but you are new to this. So you'll trip up more than I." He walked over and poked her forehead. "You're going to have to come with me."
-
She instinctively froze his motion. "Sorry, the forehead is one of the best places to touch someone if you're going to kill them with magic. It's kind of second nature to try to stop you."
-
He rolled his eye. "I'm a thief not a killer. You can undo your magic thing now."
-
"Sorry." She unfroze him and headed for the door.
