"It can for some items. But most of us value our lives over payment for finding out." The idea of being there made her uncomfortable, but she figured she could hide her abilities.
-
He nodded."Come on, I know a place where we could get a really good job." He grabbed her hand, so she wouldn't get lost or taken and ran off to a bar. He opened the doors and a few heads turned towards the two, but soon the were ignored. He walked over to the bar and sat down. He waited patiently.
-
She allowed him to take her hand and drag her along. Inside the bar, she felt young, naive, and afraid. She wasn't tough in the way most of these people were.
-
A bartender walked over and glared at Daniel. He was the same age as him, maybe a bit older by two years. "Now where have you been for the last three weeks? People have been asking for you to do jobs." Daniel chuckled lightly. "I was busy trying to find...a new associate to work with." He pointed at the girl. The bartender rolled his eyes. "right."
-
She didn't respond, and kept her hands in her lap. Every now and then, sparks would quickly bounce from her fingertips then vanish.
-
Daniel waved his hand. "Anyways, what is the top paying job that came my way?" The bartender thought for a moment. "Hm...stealing an old family heirloom for a noble man. Enough to buy a house as payment." He shook his head. "No."
-
Did he think that was a bad deal? Or did he not trust her to help? Either way she was annoyed with him.
-
The bartender blinked, then he chuckled. "Ah right. You don't do personal heirloom jobs anymore. How about stealing a big blue diamond from a noblemans home and keeping it?" Daniel smiled. "That one sounds better."
-
That was even more surprising. What would he do? Sell it?
-
The bartender smiled. "Alright the nobleman's house is a two day walk from here, maybe more but I can't remember. You can't miss it in the village." Daniel nodded and stood up. "Come on we have a job." He started walking.
-
She watched him walk out, rolled her eyes, and followed him. "Thanks," she told the bartender, just before she left.
-
The bartender waved goodbye to both of them.
Daniel waited patiently for her. "So are you really ready to do your first job?" -
"Should I not be? I'm definitely ready." She grinned at him. "Mostly I'm glad we're out of there, though."
-
He chuckled. "That's good. You're enthusiastic." He blinked."And why is that? It wasn't bad in there really."
-
"Your friends make me uncomfortable. Everyone in there could probably benefit from stealing a few books. Do we have to do anything else here?"
