"I'll take you to him. Come on." Her uncle started down the hall, and stopped at a door. It opened to a downward flight of stairs. He began the descent, his stake still held tightly.
-
Zander followed slowly, his footsteps heavy with weight as he sulked. The weight on his shoulders grew when he saw his brother. He was dirty, weak, and looked as if he hadn't left that cage at all since being put inside. "Kayle.."
-
The man lifted a key from a cord around his neck and used it to unlock a small box, then lifted the lid and pressed a button. The door slowly started to raise, and as it did, he walked over and pushed Zander toward the cage.
-
He turned with a growl. "Touch me again, and you'll lose that hand.."
-
He raised his stake again. "Get in the cage."
-
"I'm faster than you..." Zander hissed but walked in anyway, only to take care of his barely conscious brother.
-
He shut the cage after both vampires were inside, locked it, and headed for the stairs.
-
Zander made a cut in his arm and let Kayle feed from him. "You'll need some strength to get away..I'll make sure you live."
The younger let go when he was finished and looked up at him, concerned. "...Are you mad? They'll kill you if you're alone against them..I'm not going to just leave you to die here!"
"I'd rather have you live than us both die. I told mother and father I'd take care of you over four centuries ago. That includes life and afterlife." Zander pet his brother's dirty hair. "Find a place to hide, and stay hidden for years if you need to." -
Anna got her bag from the car and returned to the house. The gregariousness she'd been displaying earlier was replaced with guilt, though she masked it as exhaustion. Soon she was sitting on one of the guest beds, staring at her hands in silent contemplation.
-
Kayle was resting while Zander pet his head. "You're filthy."
"I know..They haven't let me out since I got here.." The younger sighed.
"The feed you?" He questioned.
"Only enough to survive." -
She would've been locked up with Zander if she hadn't lied, but she wondered if he understood that. She reclined and stared up at the ceiling, coming up with a plan to help both vampires escape.
-
Both had decided to rest, even if sleeping didn't do much for them, they needed all the energy they had to get out. Kayle was fast asleep, his head on his brother's knees, while Zander was slumped over, drifting off.
-
She eventually drifted off, but not before coming up with a plan. There was no way either of them would've been fed human blood. She wondered if they'd be able to drink from blood bags.
-
The undead siblings slept for hours, and when Zander awoke, he didn't know what time it was. Or if the sun had even risen. The room was windowless with one lingering light bulb. He sighed and comfortingly rubbed Kayle's back.
-
She slept the rest of the night peacefully.
