She pulled away and watched him. "You don't give yourself enough credit or honor." Sighs and watches the water.

"I washed out, it was my fault. My packing of my chute was inadequate, and I panicked and didn't open my reserve fast enough," he said sadly.

She shrugged. "We do crazy things in our panic." Tilts head and looks up towards the hole in the cave. "We can't hold onto it forever."

"SEALs don't panic," he whispered. "They don't make mistakes. Mistakes cost lives."

"Stubborn." She sighed and rubbed her face with both hands. "You sound like my father." Narrows eyes.

"Being stubborn got me through BUD/S," he said. "It was hell. But it made me who I am."

Looks at him with humor. "A stubborn warrior whom hides his feeling." Grins at him. "An I right?"

"Not a warrior, but close enough," Jake admitted. He looked up at her, something about her just warmed his cold, empty soul.

She rolled her eyes and laid back and used her elbow to prop her half way up. "Whatever your say." She huffed and relaxed.

He looked into the water, blinking quickly. "I would have given anything to go back."

"Really?" Eyes flash with slight hurt but turns away before he could see her.

He caught the look. "Please, don't take it wrong," he said apologetically.

"No I understand." She shrugged pulling up a mask of emotionless. "You want it back." Watches the water lay still and feels her tail drying out but ignores it.

"I could have made a difference and saved people from oppression," he whispered. "Instead, I needed a beautiful mermaid to save me," Jake smiled softly at her.

She blushed and shyly smiled but still wasn't looking at him. "I wish I could just be apart of your world." Sighs.
