Mastiff shook his head. "It's okay. I just..." (...can't stop thinking about Runa. They had known each other for such a long time, and Mastiff had never really gotten to spend time with the shy she-cat, but he still thought he was pretty cool.)
He couldn't say it. It would break Maria's heart.
But he said it anyway.
"...I love... I love you too, Maria," the tom admitted solemnly. "But only as... a friend." Mastiff sighed. "My heart belongs to another."
And with that, he bounded away to go find Runa. -
Maria blinked once before sitting down, utterly stunned. After regaining her sense, she began to cry, kicking a small rock. "So much for finding your true love! Why didn't I go for a pounder? Oakley, or Soldier, or Dyno..."
-
On Mastiff's way over to Runa, he spotted Naomi, who bounded up to him. She was obviously not in a good mood. "Mastiff!" she growled. "You didn't listen to my paired-up theory, did you? Because I just found out it WAS NOT true! Turns out, Oakley is a two-timing swine! I saw him cuddling with Storm!"
"Oh gosh..." said Mastiff sympathetically. "Naomi, I am so sorry..."
Then he thought about Maria and the Siamese newcomer. They really WOULD make a great couple. He wished Naomi luck and padded up to Runa. What could he say?
"Runa I love you!" the excited tomcat blurted. -
Skippito soon found Maria, but kept his fistance, for he had a feeling she wasn't really in the mood to talk to him (he had overheard Maria and Mastiff's conversation). "Seniorita..." murmured Skipoy, pitying her. If only he were more attractive...
-
Maria sighed, turning towards him. "Oh, Skippito!" The forlorn she cat threw herself towards him.
Runa's purple eyes widened. "W-What?" -
Fawn sighed, padding through the street. She ran into flint. She looked up, "uh sor-" she cut off, "you." She narrowed her eyes, obviously still mad he broke her heart.
Vine nodded in understanding, "its fine!" She smiled, nibbling badger on the ear friendily. -
Skippito felt badly, for he thought he was the reason for the split. "no, no," he said, backing away. "es mi culpa." The Siamese sighed. "te mereces Mastiff."
(*no, no. It is my fault. You deserve Mastiff.)
"Really," replied Mastiff. He tried forcing a smile, but he couldn't bring himself to after the pain he had caused Maria. So he only nuzzled Runa. -
Hey Lucky, aren't you Flint?)
Good to have you back, wolfy!)
"Okay, well, bye!" Badger waved goodbye and hopped down the junk pile. "Let's go, Duchess." -
Runa awkwardly backed away. "...Maria?"
Flint didnt reply, simply trotted past Fawn. He didnt want a fight. -
Kona trotte over to Naomi. "I'm so sorry."
-
Duchess nodded and followed.
-
Mastiff hung his head. "It's nothing. Just a little skirmish."
Naomi shrugged at Kona. "Meh, it's okay." -
Kuna smiled. "Too bad there aren't more respectable toms around here. Just then, Flint walked by.
Runa hesitated, still unsure. "Oh...I'm sorry." The shy cat muttered. She was so reluctant to trust, worried the Mastiff would break her heart. Just like he did... -
Mastiff cod tell Runa was reluctant. "No more heart-breaking," he promised solemnly.
Naomi nodded in agreement... but then she saw Flint, and her heart stopped.
