Maria gaped. "Wow, it sounds incredible!"
Winona thought. "...I give up. What?" -
Miku looked at Vine. "Where were you?"

"A CATtail!!" Streak answered, giggling. Then he started laughing all over again.
Alice glared along with Miku. "Yes... where were you, Vine, dear?? Good heavens... you really startled us." She waited for an explanation.
Mastiff nodded, and sighed. "Yep, it sure is a handful..." -
That's ok!)
Winona burst out laughing.
Maria sighed. "But you stay with your families right...?" -
Mastiff stared solemnly into her eyes, which soon drifted somewhere else. "Uhh, well... sometimes. It depends on how old you are, and whether or not you decide to start a family of your own after entwinement (also known as 'marrying'), and if you die or not..." he accidentally chuckled a little when saying this.

Maria hesitated. "Oh. At least you've got a choice.."

"Sorry," whispered Mastiff, shaking his head. "I just thought that would be a funny joke..."
Oh toadcrud, Mastiff thought, I just gave away my plans to impress her!! -
Maria half smiled. "That's ok. Do you think maybe I could see your home?"

Vine thought for a moment, "uh... I was looking for food and got... caught in the rain! That's it."
Fawn rolled her eyes and decided to go back to look for sol. -
Miku smiled. "Oh. Okay!"

"Well, alright," sighed Alice, nudging Vine with her muzzle. "Be careful, little one. Now go run along. But stay out of trouble!!"
Mastiff nodded. "Oh, uh... err, of course! Sure! You can even sleep with me, if you want..." Toadcrud, he thought again, nearly cursing. I wish Maria would forget I just said that... toadcrud toadcrud toadcrud...
That night, Badger still missed Vine. Maybe he could sneak away when no one was looking and visit her?? ... Meanwhile, The Pounders finally reached Pedigree territory, and Mastiff introduced Maria to his home-- a supportive cardboard box. "I think it can fit two," suggested Mastiff. "What do YOU think??" Then he noticed they were in a dump. And... Maria wasn't used to all this clutter... -
Maria smiled. "That would be lovely. I imagine it would easily fit two." She replied smiling. Her deep blue eyes scanned the crowded landscape.

They both clambered inside. As soon as Mastiff thought he saw Maria drift off, he scooted closer.
And not because it was cold outside.
Mastiff nuzzled her softly and whispered in her ear, "Naomi was right. Maria, we are destined for one another. I know it, and I will always protect you. I will teach you the ways of our kind; you will never be alone." (he only said this when he was POSITIVE she was in a deep sleep) -

Maria smiled slightly in her sleep, laying peacefully against Mastiff. The box was big enough for both of them, and she fit comfortably against his larger form.
