These are the actual seven tenants of the Satanic temple (founded in 2013)
I
One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.
II
The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
III
One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.
IV
The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.
V
Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs.
VI
People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.
VII
Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word. -
Wait damn didn't realize these were the tenets daaaang

Thanks for sharing this! Satanism is very taboo and stigmatized so most people know next to nothing about it. The teachings in the satanic Bible are absolutely fascinating and to many people, deeply fulfilling. It's not at all the demonic persona evangelicals painted to us all during the satanic panic
-
I found about this a little while back, and I felt like it'd be a good idea to spread the word since the Satanic Temple is often confused with the Church of Satan (which was founded back in 1966) I've done my research on them, and if anyone has questions, feel free to ask me or look up the official website for the Satanic Temple.

Satan and Satanic
-
the satanic teachings teach selfishness and God’s word teaches integrity. satan tells you to fulfill yourself and lean on yourself which is essentially leading you to being snared in sin while God teaches to lean on Him and be kind to others among a lot of other awesome things :D
-
also friendly reminder that satan disguises himself as an angel of light. he doesn’t march up and go “im the devil” with a pitchfork and horns, he’ll deliberately lead you into evil and sin while disguising it as goodness when it’ll inevitably lead you to death
-
@Espie: Satan is a symbol in Satanism, not an actual being. He is also not the Christian version of Satan.
If you had actually done some research, or...y'know, looked at the 7 tenants listed above, you would know that Satanism is NOT about being selfish, it's about loving yourself and being compassionate to others, even if they have wronged you.
"The mission of The Satanic Temple is to encourage benevolence and empathy, reject tyrannical authority, advocate practical common sense, oppose injustice, and undertake noble pursuits."
-
I have personally thought about converting/joining Satanism, but I'm still having a silly little religious crisis, so nothing is set in stone yet.
-
no, i didn’t read the tenants because i don’t want to open gateways to demonic entities that’ll allow them to oppress my family. this home is already prayed over and protected by God, but even reading something evil or looking at something evil can open gateways that i don’t want to open
again, satan disguises himself as an angel of light. i don’t understand how he’s not the satan from christianity because that’s where satan originated lol
it may seem good but it’s not. e.g., halloween is blatantly and exclusively demonic but people partake in it because it seems good. yk, getting candy and all that
same for christmas. and birthdays. and easter. and valentines day. it seems good but it’s from the same demonic spirit who wants to blind you from seeing whats actually good and wants you to worship yourself above God, which is the same as making yourself a god… which is idolatry and blasphemy, which is a sin
some things it says may be truth, such as “kindness towards others” (where did the satanic temple get the attributes of kindness? kindness and all goodness comes from the God of Heaven and Earth, not the satanic temple. but why would they use kindness, because satan by nature is not goodness therefore does not carry kindness as an attribute, therefore the satanic temple is borrowing attributes from the God of Heaven and Earth for their covert operation to carry out a satanic plan to deceive many people) but they follow horribly demonic traditions that’ll again, inevitably lead to a fiery death and eternal separation from our creator. the Bible says to test all fruit; if you’re willingly ignorant that’s not an excuse for the truth that’s already inside you. on the day of judgement you’ll still stand guilty for what you know. amen 🙏 -
There's a difference between the Satanic Temple and the Satan portrayed in Christianity. From what I understand, the seven tenets teach you to love and respect yourself, instead of teaching you to worship a god or spirit. I don't have any beef with people who people in gods or spirits, in fact I have a couple friends who are Christian, but I think everyone should be able to believe what they want to. Satanism isn't really a religion, but a set of morals and values Satanists follow. It's probably called Satanism because it's practically the opposite of Christianity. Satan is the opposite of God. That's what I've seen/heard, but I may be wrong.
-
@Espie: Oooh boy, I have a lot to say to you, because obviously you aren't listening/understanding. Give me 20 minutes.
@LittleNerd: You mostly got it! Except as far as I'm aware, Satanism is not related to Christianity. However, I'll do some more research on that point and I'll let you know what I find :) -
okay then explain why at satancon, a satanic event that worships satanism and pertains to the religion of the satanic temple, did they rip up a christian Bible at the introductory ceremony if it’s not related to Christianity
-
@Espie: Okay, no offense, but you're embarrassing yourself by being so ignorant. Like, for a second there I thought you were joking.
The 7 Tenets aren't going to kill you or curse your family or whatever you think. They are literally all about respecting yourself and others. Since you're heavily ignorant, I'll just explain them all in the simplest way possible.
1. You must act with compassion and empathy towards everyone.
2. Injustice and inequality is still a thing and should not be in laws and organizations.
3. Your body is your own.
4. Every freedom given to others should be respected, even the freedom to offend. To purposefully violate someone else's freedoms is to decline your own freedoms.
5. Beliefs should follow your own scientific understanding of the world. You shouldn't distort scientific facts to fit your beliefs.
6. Everyone makes mistakes. If you make a mistake, you should correct it and settle the conflict.
7. All the tenets are guiding principles created to inspire selflessness in everything you do. Compassion, wisdom, and justice should always win over written or spoken word.
For the love of everything good, listen to what I'm saying to you. It's not the Christian Satan. They don't even believe in Satan, he's a SYMBOL. Here's a quote directly from their FAQ:
"Do you worship Satan?"
"No, nor do we believe in the existence of Satan or the supernatural. The Satanic Temple believes that religion can, and should, be divorced from superstition. As such, we do not promote a belief in a personal Satan. To embrace the name Satan is to embrace rational inquiry removed from supernaturalism and archaic tradition-based superstitions. Satanists should actively work to hone critical thinking and exercise reasonable agnosticism in all things. Our beliefs must be malleable to the best current scientific understandings of the material world — never the reverse."
also, here's this too:
"What does Satan mean to The Satanic Temple?"
"Satan is a symbol of the Eternal Rebel in opposition to arbitrary authority, forever defending personal sovereignty even in the face of insurmountable odds. Satan is an icon for the unbowed will of the unsilenced inquirer – the heretic who questions sacred laws and rejects all tyrannical impositions. Our metaphoric representation is the literary Satan best exemplified by Milton and the Romantic Satanists from Blake to Shelley to Anatole France."
Your god doesn't own kindness either. Kindness is a universal trait that is seen everywhere. They're not deceiving anyone by teaching others kindness, empathy, and respect, unlike Christianity. Maybe you should reflect on your own people before judging other religions, because your religion is full of toxicity and hate.
No one in this thread wants to hear you preaching about your sky daddy and how "great" he is. We don't care. This is a thread about Satanism and how it is wrongfully stigmatized. You're just proving our point.
As for what you just said a few minutes ago, I don't know what you're talking about. Provide sources before spewing accusations.
Also, thanks for exposing me to my old religious trauma in a thread unrelated to Christianity. Appreciate it so much. /sar -
Dude, I understand where you're coming from but that doesn't make it right and it also doesn't make it okay to insult and belittle Christianity and the person you're talking to.
While Satanism may be modernized and no longer falls under the definition it used to, the fact stands that its name IS derived from the Satan of Christianity. To use him as the face of your religion is to use the most vile being in all existence to represent your religous identity, which obviously is not so great.
It seems like you're not interested in this place being a topic for debate, but Espie had no way of knowing this prior as it was never stated to be closed off for discussion. There was no need to belittle her or call her ignorant, when you could've politely explained like LittleNerd did.
