My truth is being true to myself and my religious beliefs. I worship The world, the divine and the self. And that's my faith. That's what works for me.
My matron goddess affirms my gender and my growth from victim to survivor. I'd be lost without her, my patron's strength helps me to continue, and keeps me in touch with my roots. Odin inspires my curiosity, my desire to learn, and my understanding of who the self actually is. The morrigan helps me come to terms with the sickness I was born into, and to overcome my fear of death. Set keeps me strong, and allows me the will to protect those I love.
The world. Nature is all around us, and provides us with more than we return. Why should I ignore it? Why should I turn away from it. I embrace it, as I always had.
And the self. To care for yourself and understand your mind is important. You need to know yourself to truly love the world and the divine. That's my truth. -
Truth is largely subjective. I know christians aren't a fan of post-modernism but I think that the evidence for it weighs out. I personally think that how humans interpret the world around us is far more important than objectivity. A statue of a cow is called just that, but if you wanted to be objective about it it's not a cow at all. It's hardened shaped earth that we call a cow because as sentient beings, we create meaning in the world around us.
The simple fact is that every single person here's religion is dictated by the environment they grew up in and the specific circumstances that shaped their identity. The odds of you being Christian if you had been born anywhere else on earth are such a huge variable. What's the truth in that? Why do westerners have an unfair advantage in their access to "the truth" over people born in different countries? It's quite dehumanizing how christians treat other religions. Even muslims see christians as having the same god as them but christians don't accept that. Christians don't accept Mormons, Jehovah's witnesses, gnostics, Jews, or Muslims as having access to salvation. Why does one specific belief system get to dictate truth and salvation to millions of other people who all claim to worship the same god you do? -
Nothing can be "true" without being proven. Ik that's a bit hypocritical coming from an athleist but let me explain before ya'll come at me.
The definition of faith is having complete trust, belief and confidence in something that may or may not have been proved. When it comes to religion, people's belief is based on spiritual conviction rather than proof.
That said, I'm not trying to prove that y'all's religions aren't real. Have faith in what you wanna, I'm not here to judge.
"Truth" is just the way people see the world. Christians see it as being created by a God, but other religions don't. Religion to me can be multiple things, like an explanation, or a set of morals, or a way of guiding someone through their journey of life. Everyone perceives the world in a different way because of their religion, race, family, and a buncha other stuff.
My way of explaining it may be kinda s---ty, but because I didn't grow up with religious family or teachings I don't know what's offensive or not.
My "truth" is that there was a huge explosion and, boom, the world. My "truth" is was science has shown us. But that doesn't mean I don't have my own set of morals I follow. Everyone's truth is valid. -
@Mint - That last question I think I can help answer actually ^^ the thing is if Christianity weren't the only way to salvation, there would essentially be no point in being Christian. Why bother if it doesn't matter as long as you do good by a human standard? The point of Christianity is faith in Christ, which is not the same as simply believing in the same God. We have to believe that Christ was the Son of God and died for our sins, and through that faith and the relationship we build because of that faith, we are saved. Christianity does believe there is only one true God, so I don't think Espie is saying it to be offensive. Those are just our personal beliefs as Christians and you are of course welcome to disagree
-
Saying that not being Christian means you're going to hell; shocker. Is offensive!!
Being afraid of hell isn't a reason to be Christian. I dont believe in heaven or hell, I don't need your god or Christian to give me salvation. Espie brought Christianity into a thread it had nothing to do with and is now, very firmly by the way, denying all other religions. Also, demonising my religion out of nowhere!! [ Her comments about halloween] -
I'm not a Christian because I'm afraid of hell lol, though it is a valid concern. Building a relationship with God out of fear and terror is not healthy. You are free to not believe in Christianity and likewise she is not obligated to believe in yours. We should respect each other of course, but sharing the same ideas about religion isn't necessary. You can believe whatever you'd like. I do however disagree with bringing discussion of other religions into a space that wasn't meant for them, so this conversation would probably be better suited for a thread in the Wine Cellar
-
We probably should get back to the original point of their thread. I wanted to share this video for anyone who wants to learn more about Satanism. GMS has a lot of content about different religions and does a wonderful job at researching and verifying their sources. -
Firstly, espie keeps bringing up he'll and salvation. That's what I'm referring to
Two this thread doesn't seem to have been made as a debate and therefore wasn't the place for a post about Christianity or a debate on satanism
Three I haven't even slightly suggested that anyone should follow my religion. In fact you shouldn't!! Paganism is self governed, anyone copying my worship wouldn't be doing it for themselves. It's personal
Four. She's actively spreading hate. She is spreading hate against another religion. That's not a debate Spice. I respect you a lot, and I understand that you mean to be king and give both sides benefit of the doubt, but you're ignoring her *demonising* my religion.
[ Paganism, not satanism] and spreading misinformation about my culture. I will not stand for misinformation. -
@Spice: I wouldn't say the same for Eclipse lmao. She looks like she's Christian because she's afraid of hell, if her behavior is anything to go by. She didn't even acknowledge what we were telling her.
@Mintvoyager: oooo, I'll have to look at that when I get home tonight! :3 -
Kind*
-
@Fifidee - And I completely understand that and you have every right to defend something that is important to you. I think it'd be best if we made a thread for debate purposes, since this is still can be an important conversation to have but here isn't really the right place for it
-
Alright, if you'd like to continue this then please feel free to make a thread /gen

If anyone wants to continue debating, please do it here
