okay, thank you for sticking with the conversation. i have some questions about what you said, though.
what is satan a symbol of? where did satanism get that symbol from?
Your god doesn't own kindness either. Kindness is a universal trait that is seen everywhere. They're not deceiving anyone by teaching others kindness, empathy, and respect, unlike Christianity. Maybe you should reflect on your own people before judging other religions, because your religion is full of toxicity and hate.
alright. but where did kindness come from, then? it leads back to the question of who or what created the world. so, do you believe in a god? what's your opinion on it?
and please explain how this is exposing you to your old religious trauma. im sorry that you have trauma revolving around this topic, but i'd like more insight on how this is exposing you to it. -
@Spice: Well maybe she shouldn't be belittling Satanism. I'm just doing what she's doing.
I'll admit that I get defensive and angry when I'm trying to hide my fear, but that's just a trauma response, so don't take it personally. Usually, I would have avoided conversation, but I'm not going to let some Christian talk s--- about Satanism just because they think they're so great and have the superior religion, so they have to be right about every damn thing.
Sorry, but I'm not the type of person to be polite. Not anymore, at least. I'm not the "innocent, naive Summer" you knew in 2020-21, so don't expect me to act the same way I used to. Also, why would you think this is a debate thread? This is in The Garden, not The Wine Cellar.
@Espie: I'm only sticking around because you've annoyed me with your misinformation and typical Christian preaching about how your sky daddy is SO great, so don't bother thanking me.
I already gave you a quote, but apparently I have to explain it again. Satan is a symbol of "The Eternal Rebel", to show their disproval of random authority, while also defending personal authority even in the face of impossible odds. Satan is also a symbol of the undefeated will of the "unsilenced inquirer", aka people who question sacred laws and reject all tyrannical demands.
There's no answer as to where kindness comes from. It's just something we feel. It's the same with every other emotion. There doesn't have to be a reason either. Not everything has to have a reason.
I can't really say if I believe in god(s) or not. I'm not in the right state of mind yet to be sorting through my spiritual beliefs, considering the fact that I have more important things going on right now. I don't have an opinion on it either.
Well, your preaching freaks me out, firstly. Talks about death and what happens after death also cause me panic and anxiety. Your fear-mongering about how all Satanists will go to "hell" re-awakened an old memory of when people used to constantly tell me that I'd go to "hell" for being queer. You talking about how your god is so great and how he is "light" or whatever reminded me of when he never gave me a sign to let me know that he cared about me when I was in an abusive situation, even though I used to pray every day for 6 years. Oh yeah, and let's not forget the fact that I was almost SA'd during church. Do you want me to continue? -
I'll admit that I get defensive and angry when I'm trying to hide my fear, but that's just a trauma response, so don't take it personally.
Sorry, what? This is genuinely confusing me. Are we not allowed to be upset if you get defensive and angry with us? Trauma can explain actions, but it doesn't excuse them. I'm not trying to argue with you and I'd rather just talk, so I'm politely asking for the same courtesy.
I also hope you understand that when you say belitting things ahout Christians and Christianity, you're not just hating on the people you're mad at. It includes every Christian. The same way you shouldn't say racist things or sexist things in an argument, I would really appreciate if you didn't say such hateful things about such an important aspect of my life and many others.
I'm not expecting you to act the same way as you used to, because people change. I'm just asking for basic respect and decency, the same thing I'm extending to you.
I figured this thread was open to discussion based on the wording MTMothkey used when making it, but if they state otherwise I'm happy to oblige their request. However I'd also like to mention that whenever a Christian has posted here, we were not even given the privilege of discussion and were most often instantly belittled. -
i understand that and i don't disregard that at all. im sorry you went through that summers; i went through something similar. my dad left me, i was SA'd by two different family members, stuck in an abusive situation with part of my family i was staying with, and even when we left i was living in constant fear because of another family member who was absolutely heinous. encouraged to do bad things to myself by peers in later years, and overall dealt with abandonment majority of my life. similar things happened to my siblings too. i was stuck feeling lost for a long while and very resented for what the world had put me and others through, and i hated God because He never answered me as to why He was putting these burdens on me and others.
i found out that He doesn't put these things on us. He doesn't deliberately put us through evil; no, He loves us, but because there's free will on earth and because this is satan's dwelling, He lets these things happen. Everything evil is not from God; everything evil comes from satan. i realized that putting the blame on God for something satan had done was very ignorant of me. i needed Him in my life and i needed to lean on His understanding.
also... God gives signs to those who have faith in Him and who trust Him. no, you don't have to be pure to be given a sign; like you don't clean up before you take a shower. Christ cleanses you.
along that, God might've given you and i signs, but we just might've not understood. God's signs can be very subtle, or very blatant. and sometimes he repeats Himself.
He can speak through your heart, your thoughts, television, dreams, anything (because He controls all things and He's omnipotent), but keep in mind He doesn't reveal Himself when you want and how you want. i had to learn this too. i was very impatient and i still am at times in waiting for His signs, but i promise if you trust that He will give a sign, He will because He loves His children. -
I want to add that this appeared to be a discussion, so people are expected to explain their views, but when a Christian does so, it's suddenly taken as offensive preaching when we were asked to explain in the first place. It doesn't seem fair to be that way just because someone explained what you asked them to.

Hey! Just figured I'd break up the fighting, even just a lil bit. I'm a Lutheran Christian, and yk what? You are completely allowed to have your religion, or lack of religion. No one should tell anyone how to live their lives, that's extremely wrong in my opinion. Please be nice to each other <3
-
Guys, it's really not that hard to respect other people's religions/beliefs. You're allowed to disagree, but coming into a thread about Satanism just to s--- on Satanism isn't cool.
-
Exactly. As a Christian, I know we are taught to love others even if they are different. Also, it's basic moral principle. Please be respectful, and if you are to have disagreements, then stay respectful during debates (no one is free of this, so it's at no one in particular)
-
Also, please listen to each other!!!! You can't have healthy debates if you don't listen!! It's basic communication! ^^"

Hi, just popping in to inform Espie that Halloween has nothing to do with Satan nor satanism. It's derived from a cultural holiday known as Samhain. So please do not bring Christianity into a discussion regarding halloween, as its an Irish custom. Thanks.
-
Actually, a lot of the holidays you're referring to as Demonic, are pagan in Origin, and it's really cruel to say that. A lot of the demonisation of these holidays were done to kill off native religions in European countries that did not follow catholiscm.
Not commenting on anything else since I'm neither Christian nor a satanist, just wanted to say my piece. Have a good one /gen/nm -
didn’t read the tenants because i don’t want to open gateways to demonic entities that’ll allow them to oppress my family. this home is already prayed over and protected by God, but even reading something evil or looking at something evil can open gateways that i don’t want to open
With as much respect as possible, I found this really quite interesting as a former Christian. The Bible teaches that god puts a hedge of protection around his disciples. There are many verses throughout job, hebrew, luke, and several other books that discuss this idea of the Lord's protection against spiritual darkness.
Something else I was really curious about what the notion that even reading anything that isn't biblical cannon can make you stumble. I won't lie, that idea is certainly something that was taught to me as a Christian as well, but with all due respect, I find the notion to be incredibly harmful.
One of the core tenants of the bite model is information control. Using fear to control your access to information is a huge red flag. If everything you know about the world around you comes from an internally validated belief system then you are only getting the version of information that's been deemed acceptable by the church.
I don't say that to try and discredit your beliefs. I believe strongly that everyone has a right to personal belief. I just find it concerning when peoples belief systems use fear to control their access to information.
Your church has taught you some preconceived notions about Satanism. You're afraid to even read it because it's outsider material you've been taught can harm your relationship with God.
If God is all powerful and loves you and wants to protect you from evil, wouldn't it stand to reason that reading things contrary to his word would only make your belief stronger? Don't you find it odd that so much "worldy" media is censored or discouraged in Christianity? I totally understand the argument of "I don't want to stumble in my faith," I just feel like if God was so real and his word was so good, anything contrary to that would only make you believe in him more, not stumble you. And what loving god would allow his followers to be deceived out of eternal life with him?
isn't it interesting that lots of satanists have read the Bible and understand Christians beliefs, but few Christians have read Satan's bible and mostly derive their understand on satanism off what other Christians say it is about?
Please don't worry about taking time to respond, I didn't write that out to get a debate. Those are just my own thoughts and beliefs just like you have yours. I am not trying to convert you or convince you you're wrong, I merely wanted to share my perspective as an apostate and someone who's been on both sides of this conversation. I also just wanted to encourage open-mindedness, because just as you are offended by how other people treat your religion, other people are offended by how you treat theirs.
Sending love and kindness towards all of you, take care. -
I have to agree with Mint. Refusing ti educate yourself when demanding an explanation from another party is concerning, especially when it seems to come from a place of genuine fear. Your God will not cast you into hell for reading information on a quiz site /srs
It's often a fearmongering tactic spread by the church, and not actually by your God. Your worship is personal, its all yours. Nobody can take that from you by opening up alternative routes of education.
If you would like to be educated on other religions, I'm a qualified teacher of RMPS, and would be delighted to help. /gen
Take care -
@Spice: That was not what I meant. I don’t think I worded it correctly, considering that I posted that at 9pm last night. I didn't say anything about you not being allowed to get upset, I'm trying to explain that my defensiveness isn't me trying to be purposefully mean, it's just my "flight, fight, or freeze" instincts kicking in. I'm not trying to use it as an excuse either.
Don't turn this around on me. Eclipse is the reason why I responded in the first place. If you guys are going to say hateful things towards other religions, then why shouldn't I say stuff back? Sorry, but I have dealt with too much crap from hateful, bigoted people my entire life on this hellish Earth to be nice or allow myself to be a pushover.
Satanism is important to many people too, and the 7 Tenets are something that people try to use in their daily lives to show empathy and respect to themselves and others. You being blatantly ignorant says a lot about you. If you had given one look at the Satanic Temple’s official website, you would have had basically all the information you need.
@Espie: Thanks, I guess. I’m sorry that happened to you, but the Christian god doesn’t have a place in my life anymore. It was not something I believed in in the first place, it was a belief that was forced onto me by my parents. The only reason why I went to church as a child was because I loved my grandma and enjoyed hanging out with her every weekend, and because I had friends there. That’s it.
Technically, I tried to believe in the Christian god. That’s one of the reasons why I prayed all the time. I didn’t know that there were other options until I was about 11, when I officially stopped going to church. Now I’m so much happier, without the pressure of having to believe in that particular god or having to pretend to be someone else.
@Fallen Corrin: I never asked anyone to explain themselves. I corrected Eclipse because she was spreading misinformation about Satanism. As far as I’m aware, no one in the thread was asking any Christian to explain themselves, either.
@Fifidee: Oh yeah, that’s another thing too! I get a lot of paganism on my social media, and that’s something that I see a lot of people bring up. I didn’t know Halloween is an Irish custom, though. I learn something new every day lol
@mintvoyager (and Fifidee): You guys are much more level-headed than I am, so thank you :”) -
@Summer - I apologize if I said or did anything that made you uncomfortable or said anything hateful, which I promise was not my intention. I also misinterpreted your comment earlier about being defensive, which is my mistake. I'm not being blatantly ignorant, I'm just saying that even if Satanism does practice good things, having Satan as both the namesake and sort of mascot for the religion is a bit iffy to me and came off as devil worship. I'm glad to hear that's not the case.
