The plant he was trying to breath through killed him. 2m is too long. You'd end up breathing carbon dioxide after a while. He died from lack of oxygen due to the plant.

Anyways, he suffocated because the tube was too long and his lungs were not powerful enough. So... yeah. Here's another riddle:
A man of war was captured by his ennemies. He begged and pleaded to be let go, but they ignored him. Though, they did give him a choice: he was allowed to say one single statement. If the statement is true, he would be drowned to death and if he lied, he would be burned to death. He gave his statement and was set free.
What did he say?
