Opety oop-
Idk how to respond to that, or even if you want me to respond just... wtf
Is this an online friend, normal friend, or family? Just asking bc my response might be different depending on who it is -
It was normal friend, and we were on call and it was just the most random thing to say-
We weren’t even talking about religion/politics they just randomly brought it up -
Bro i don't even know what to say
I mean, ik it's not since it's in your vent thread, but I'm just imagining this kid playing super smash bros with you and just randomly going "Yeah so mister cheeto man kinda slays" and that's kinda funny
Obviously politics is just icky and b l e g h -
Whenever people mention politics to me and I'm too tired to talk about it I always just go "No politics at the dinner table" so that might work for you...
-
Me neither honestly-
Bro I wish that’s how it went xD
It is, especially when you tie it in with religion- -
Lmao yeah politics are silly and stupid
-
Yeah lol
I’m gonna f---ing scream istg
I tried to talk about it more to try and understand her point of view as to why this religion is apparently bad and she’s refusing to talk about it
And now I feel like a b---- but ik I’m not in the wrong bc you can’t say something that ignorant then expect me to be fine with it- -
Now I don’t even want to go to the sleepover
If I don’t go I’ll feel left out but if I do go I’m risking an entire night being uncomfortable -
It’s just that frustration when you want to talk about something to try and understand and the other person gets pissed and refuses to elaborate. Like they’re the one who said it if you’re gonna say something like that be prepared to explain why you think that
-
Maybe I’m reading too much into it but yeah
-
No that seems fair, like if you're going to say a strong opinion, have reasons to back it up?? That's kind of how an opinion works-
How many people are going to the sleepover? I personally wouldn't go if it was just that person and another friend, but it >3 people are coming, then I would say to go, but bring a coping mechanism/have a back up plan in case it ends up not being worth it.
What religion is it? I'm just asking for a bit of context, but obviously making fun of religion isn't okay (with the exception of making jokes about religious trauma bc I think that stuffs funny lmao) -
Yeah that’s what I was thinking, being “uncomfortable” talking about something that you started talking about seems a bit weird yk?
There are four ppl going (not including me) but two haven’t confirmed so if they can’t go I might just not
Muslim. She’s always been an Atheist or Christian (she told me) (fr lmao that’s the only time it’s fine) -
I’m not done talking about this topic but does anyone else want to have a mental breakdown when their everyday routine is disturbed or is that just me
-
^^Don't bring up things you're uncomfortable with. Or choose to do things that make you uncomfortable/trigger you and make it everyone else's problem. It's YOUR responsibility to gauge how YOU feel about subjects YOU choose to bring up
Ohhhh I see. Yeah, I would try to make sure at least 2 other people are going
Okay I could rant about this for hours because religion is one of the only things I'm fixated on atm lmao but DO NOT discriminate against people based on their religion, it's gross. Also at least from what I've seen (which isn't a lot bc I live in a very christian jESuS area so I don't know a lot about muslims lol) it's largely an ethnic type thing, so when people make jokes/discriminate against them it largely has to do with their race, which is just ew ew ew. Religion and race don't define people and it's genuinely not that big of a deal what someone believes in unless you or them make it a big deal. Obviously you know this or else we wouldn't be talking about this, but differences are good, don't discriminate, especially over something as dumb as religion (with that being said, the fact that I predicted she was christian is kinda funny-) -
That was too long of a rant, mb
Depends. I have to be told it's changing in advance so I don't freak out, but I also hate putting myself in routines/habits so I normally don't mind it as long as I'm aware of it before it happens
