Emma- knowing me, would you think that I believe that?
Yes, exactly, give it the benefit of the doubt. He/she wants to live. -
I knew that as a basic idea.
-
tongue AdvancedBrit- Read Peter Singer. The ability to hold preference and experience suffering and pain are what matters when weighing the issue of abortion. A fetus does not have the capacity to feel pain and therefore cannot hold preference.
-
That's a good philosophy, though that still doesn't justify abortion.
-
tongue AdvancedWell the woman does have the ability to hold preference and the capacity to feel pain, and many times a woman has alot to lose by continuing an unplanned pregnancy, and alot to gain from terminating the pregnancy. And I stand by the "kids make mistakes" argument because there are stacks of psychological evidence to back that claim.
-
And to counter that would be Emma's argument. The message of teenage abortions say there won't be consequences for action. A teen believing that will be screwed in reality.
No, I agree with kids make mistakes. Their brain isn't fully developed, therefore adding to lack of commen sense. -
tongue AdvancedI don't think that message is sent at all. Rarely is abortion an easy decision for a woman to make. I don't want to know the person who can make that decision easily. Whether it is alive or not, it's still your child. A woman who has an abortion is likely to mourn that child, even though they know in the heart and their mind that they did the best thing for themselves. So whether a woman has the child or not, they still have to live with the consequences.
-
With our society becoming more corrupt, I think the message can be perceived that way by a portion of teens.
There is still no representation for the child. -
tongue AdvancedThe child is not a sentient being. It isn't entitled to representation. By your logic we should be asking trees if they want to be cut down.
-
No, because at a point in time, a fetus will be able to make a decision itself.
-
tongue AdvancedA fetus cannnot make decisions. A person can. A pregnant woman is a person, so it is better to ask her opinion.
I'm just about done. We've been arguing in circles for the last 10 posts or so. I'm not sure how I got to believing I would change your thinking, but clearly that intention has proved futile. -
And I know people say they're grateful their parents didn't get an abortion, but really if they did you wouldn't miss this life anyway, when you never knew it.
-
f--- them. They weren't responsible. They got pregnant. To bad, so sad. Wrap it before you tap it people.
-
tongue AdvancedYes, but unfortunately kids aren't allowed to be taught about contraception in alot of places, and they don't have access to contraception, and they aren't told where they can go to get it because the whole freaking culture they grow up in wants them to stay abstinent. This isn't the case in New York- kids usually have access to contraception, health class usually provides some kind of sex ed, and it's pretty widely known that you can go to Planned Parenthood for condoms or the pill. That isn't the case is some places though. My dad lives in a county in Tennessee that has the second highest rate of teenage pregnancy in the country, and it's all because of the insistence of moral purity. It's because of the attitude that you must be abstinent until marraige, which is unrealistic, which means they don't get the information they need to be responsible. And then the girls can't get an abortion because they have to get their parents' permission first, and that rarely happens. So if you really want to lower abortion rates, you need to have some moral wiggle room and support methods of preventing teen pregnancy.

yeah here's the solution:
USE A FRICKIN' CONDOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
