people keep forgetting about if the mother's life is at risk, abortion should be an option..
-
It really should.
-
tongue AdvancedEmma- teenagers make mistakes. It's pretty much a biological fact that teenagers can't make decisions as effectively as adults. Yea if you're an adult, you should really no better, but a teenager doesn't. They shouldn't have to bear that burden for the rest of their life. And if a teenager can't make decisions for themselves effectively, how could they raise a baby? There are people who have been able to do it, yes, but they're the exception. Raising a child when you're still a child yourself generally works out badly for both mother and child.
-
tongue AdvancedAlso, We don't decide if it lives or dies. That decision is up to the woman. So don't try to come with the whole "we shouldn't decide" argument, because you're proposing that We decide and that a pregnant woman shouldn't be allowed the choice of terminating a pregnancy.

heavy heart Newbiemy mom's always told me that i'm at the age where it's okay to try things and make mistakes. At my age I can still bounce back from my screw ups.
I'm pro choice. -
As a teen, if you're going to take a chance and sex... that's a problem to me. But if on top of it you manage to forget a condom, I think a sutiable punishment would be going through with the pregenancy.
-
you have sex once and forget the condom and then your punishment is to go through 9 months of agony? wow harsh, even I wouldn't enforce that onto my daughter and I'm an absolute biatch.
-
It's killing an unborn one that will never get a chance to live outside of the womb. I'm for adoption instead of abortion
-
And watch, while the woman has to care for it, the man can just go off and forget about the event.
If one person has to be forced to deal with it, so should the other. -
tongue AdvancedWow, I gotta tell ya, it really scares me to hear people talk about punishing teen mothers. What a lack of compassion. I'm sensing not just apathy but antipathy as well, not just lack of emotion but also negative emotion. That personally scares me alot.
-
heavy heart NewbieThe problem with your logic Brittonio is that you're looking at a newborn baby as a punishment. What kind of parent would that make you?
I am a broken condom baby and i can proudly say that my parents chose to keep me. They werent forced to and they honestly considered abortion. The reason they kept me isnt because they were forced to, it was because they knew they had the financial help they needed. Honestly, if my parents didnt have the finances they did, I would want them to have aborted me, because parents who abort because of financial reasons usually end up having a baby later on when they are more stable. Being forced to have one now only means that they might now have someone else at a more beneficial time. -
tongue AdvancedEmma and Brittonio have basically proposed treating teen mothers like criminals. Anyone else have a problem with that?

Items in favor:
Rape
Woman's right
Less population
Child does not have to be raised by morons
Total: 4
Against:
It is "murder"
Their stupid choice
Use the adoption system
Total: 3
Morals can come into play, but really morals are personal, and if you don't want an abortion don't get one.
As for the murder thing...it survives if you don't do it, but what kind of life is that? Raised by parents who didn't want them?
And adoption, virtually the same issue. There is very little chance they will be adopted. -
heavy heart- I wouldn't consider a baby punishment, even though you might intepret it that way. I would consider myself to be a decent parent. I have morals. Also, that's another problem. That's not a fair decision. I'm guessing a fetus wants to live, they should have the decision.
And again, adding to the stupidity of the situation, if a couple isn't financially ready, that's on them as well.
I forget who it was, but I think in that case there should be some law put in place for the biological Dad to have to support the baby in some way. Other than financially. -
It's punishment if a teenage girl that can't support it has sex and accidentally got pregnant and has to sit through nine agonizing months for a child she never wanted. That's punishment for both the mother AND the child if it ever finds out.
A fetus can't think or choose, it can't say 'i want to live!'
