It's not illegal. It's up to the states, meaning some will ban it and some won't depending where you're at.

I am strongly against abortion.
All life is precious, especially the ones of children. -
Why is a "child" who has not even been born yet more important than me?
All life is suffering. We do not know that a fetus suffers when it is aborted as they are not conscious, but we do know that every human alive has. Is it not kinder to spare them? Especially when they're unwanted in the first place. Or should we force them to be born on the veryveryvery off chance they live a half decent life.
We DO know forcing people to carry and birth babies that they don't want increases suffering for all parties.
If you want to reduce abortions, look at WHY people get them. Stop judging people for making hard choices. Especially if you don't have a complete understanding of human anatomy or the endless complications a pregnancy can cause. -
You can not like that abortions happen and still support woman's choice. I think that the two party system in America has done a great job at making it feel like an "all or nothing" situation, but it is more complicated than that.
If you really want to see an decrease in abortions we need to increase access to contraceptives, sex ed, and we should focus on making healthcare more affordable so pregnant people can get help during their pregnancy and everyone can seek reproductive healthcare.
The solution is less unwanted pregnancy is better pregnancy resources. That solution includes keeping abortions legal so that people who need them for whatever reason can get them. Making the choice to carry a pregnancy or not can already be stressful enough, let's not emotionally scar women further by shaming them for their decisions and making them fear for their lives.
--sincerely, someone who takes bugs outside because I believe all life is precious -
Also reading the new laws they are proposing are showing me what a slippery slope this was. They're already looking to federally outlaw it. The government does not have your best interest in mind. This has never been about "giving the states the right to choose." This is about centralized power and control.

I strongly believe that abortion is not okay, I think that it would only be acceptable if the fetus is not developing properly (aka would not survive if left to grow) or under strictly medical circumstances in which it is necessary.
So many lives are being erased purely for convenience and I believe that's wrong. I think more effort should be put into proper education regarding sex/pregnancy in schools and more effort into looking after and supporting these mother's and their children (although organizations like that DO exist, it would be nice for them to receive more support) -
i support it no matter what !!

Hey, Spice. What is 'convenient' about getting an abortion? Is it the four+ hour drive? The hecklers calling you evil? Endless people judging you? Is the excruciating pain easy, are the nausea and privacy violations just a sunday stroll?
There is NOTHING convenient about needing an abortion. -
You're correct and I apologize, my wording wasn't quite correct. I mean that some people decide "Oh, if I get pregnant I'll just get an abortion" and take no safety precautions to prevent a pregnancy
I understand that pregnancy is an incredibly difficult path in life, especially for someone who's young and unprepared for it. That's why I think we NEED to properly educate children on this subject, but I still don't think that taking away a human life just because it's unwanted is a good solution. -
If you have any sources/statistics about people who supposedly choose to get abortion instead of using other forms of contraceptives, I would genuinely like to see. People always bring up that point in conversations like these, but I have never seen or heard from anyone that actually do that
Even if people do for some reason use abortion as an alternative to contraceptives, the percentage of people doing it for that reason alone is very small. The majority, if not all, abortions are used for unplanned pregnancies. It would be ridiculous to make abortions illegal just because a small percentage of people might be "misusing" them -
The only time I've ever been in a situation when I felt like I might be forced to consider an abortion was when living in a religious household. I was an adult but was not allowed to get contraceptives and had no bodily autonomy.
It's crazy to be because like Christians are super against abortion but also discourage contraceptives or sex education -
(I have never heard that last part?
My family is super christian and was perfectly okay with me GETTING sex ed.
Maybe if you're catholic, and i'm not saying that because i'm a non-catholic christian, but because they believe that all forms of... you know are sinful even if it's between a married couple.)
BUT I'm getting off track.
The whole sex ed thing is true, more people need to know about that. -
It depends on the family but I just grew up in a non-denominational church and was
-not allowed to get sex ed
-not allowed access to birth control
-plan b was the same as an abortion
-was literally kicked out of the house in the middle of the night for dating someone at the age of 19
-was taken out of school and completely isolated for two years for dating. This happened on two different occasions
I had come out as pan in highschool to them I can't imagine how much worse it would've been. I am very grateful if your family is not like that, but religious abuse is extremely common. -
Even if you believe in abstinence, enforcing it on your child is dangerous and will lead to more problems than it'll help.

I realize that might derail the conversation. I'm happy to make another thread to discuss that if anyone would like it since it kinda detracts from the premace of this thread. I think is important to discuss though.
