I leaned my forehead against the window. I could feel tears starting to come.

He continued to drive, watching her from the corner of his eye.

The tears started to spill over and I couldn't stop my shoulders from shaking.

He pulled the car over to the edge of the highway and looked at her. "Why are you crying?"

I shook my head and hastily wiped the tears away. "It's nothing. I'm fine."

"I can tell you aren't." He hugged her tightly.

I turned and buried my face in his shoulder. "I miss them, Mark. I don't even know if they care that I'm gone anymore."

"They care," he whispered. "They'd never stop caring. They love you too much."

I cried on his shoulder. I had started and now I couldn't stop.

He patted her back, which turned into rubbing her back. "Don't cry Nat, don't cry..." He kissed the top of her head.

I kept crying but then I heard police sirens in the distance. "Oh no," I whispered.

He froze for a moment; then gently pushed her away. He pushed the gas petal down, pulling out onto the main part of the highway.
