Alex sat down beside her. "I wish I could have done more, though. This nation... It's a bit morbid..." He pondered whether to tell her the truth about his origin; about who he was. Alex had just met her yesterday, but something about her made it seem as though he'd known her since the beginning of time.
-
Rhiley nodded in agreement. "It sad. They don't like themselfs, so they have the operation. But they're not themselves, they're.....shadow."
I was just struck with an idea that may or may not work -
Ooh, please share!
Alex nodded. "The worst part is that everyone has to be 'cured.' But of what exactly? Is emotion really as dangerous as they say it is?" Now he looked into Rhiley's eyes tenderly. I like you. And in a perfect world, maybe you'd like me too. -
"My mommy say before surgery was invented, alot of people do bad things because of what they feel." Rhiley said, meeting Alex's gaze. "But she also say people do lots of good things because of what they feel."
What if that night some of the youngeer and less patient members of the resistence decide to hurt alot of the citizens to draw attention to them? -
Yes. Because the government tries to cover up their existence. I love it. That is a brilliant idea.
"Where I was, before I came here, people were allowed to feel emotions... Especially love. Have you ever loved something before?" Alex decided that he'd better ease her into the truth, like getting used to cold water. You slowly enter bit by bit, stopping every few seconds to get used to it. -
"I-I'm not sure." she said, face scrunching up. Without anyone to teach her about the emotions she felt, she really had no way to tell. Her parents didn't feel emotions anymore, and they had no need to think about them.
-
And I'm glad you like it
-
"That's okay. I didn't expect you to."
-
"I really liked a plant I had, though. It was a nice plant." she added quickly. It'd been a little bean plant Rhiley had when she was thirteen, unfortunatly it didn't survive long.
-
Alex smiled. "That's sweet." And so are you.
-
Rhiley brought her knees up to her chest, and rested her chin on them. As the last rays of sunlight dissappeared, horrible screams came from the direction of the city.
Masked men and women were breaking down doors and slashing the people who lived inside them. They may not have emotions, but they sure as hell felt pain. -
Alex immediately leapt to his feet, his eyes wide. They had told him they were planning an attack... He hadn't believed them. "What...." his voice trailed off as he was hit with fear, heavy as a brick. This one action could give them away, all of them.
-
Rhiley looked up, suprised. She'd never heard anyone scream before, so she was unsure of what it meant. "What's going on?"
Kala looked out at the gruesome scene from her bedroom window, frowning. "Jason, I do believe we may die tonight." she said. -
"I... The..." Alex was at a loss for words. His heart felt as though it would beat straight out of his chest. "I have to stop them."
-
"Stop who? What is going on?" Rhiley asked. She didn't like the expression on Alex's face, he looked scared. That made Rhiley feel scared, or very close anyway.
Jason, Rhiley's father, was busy packing a small bag. "We will be gone before they get here." he said, taking Kala's hand and leading her away from the window. They started down the staires, but they didn't get far. The door burst open and two masked men ran in.
