"Let's go see if she's alright. She looked kinda upset."

"She might start yelling... Are you sure you want to see that?" He got up.

"I can handle it. I just wanna see if she's alright."

"Okay." He walked around to his side of the bed and took his hand, leading them to her room. He knocked on the door lightly. "Mom?"

He stood beside him.

She opened the door. She looked tired, almost older even. "Make it quick, Devin. I'm exhausted." He looked at her, concerned. "Is something up?"

"You seemed upset..." Nikki gave her that cute, big eyed look.

Devin nodded. She sighed. "Something happened that I'm not too happy about. That's all."

"You can tell us."

Devin nodded. She shook her head. "It's out of my control now. Go back to bed, boys."

"Please?"

"Mom. Who else can you turn to with this? It's your son and his boyfriend. We're about as trustworthy as trustworthy can get." His mother closed her eyes and stepped out into the hall. "Let's head downstairs, grab some cookies and milk, and then I'll talk."

He giggled. "Would you like some pizza?"

"Actually, some cold pizza might be good. Thanks," she said as she headed down the steps, Devin and Nikki following. He smiled. His mom and him haven't exactly been on speaking terms lately. Even just a small chat was better than nothing at all.

He got it out for her. "So...Tell us what's wrong."
