He chuckled.

"Good night." He closed his eyes.

"'Night," he quickly fell asleep.

He kept his arms around him tightly.

He breathed softly as he slept, occasionally mumbling some incoherent words.

He muttered softly.

The front door opened and closed at about 3am. It was just one set of footsteps climbing the stairs, peeking in to Devin's room. A slight intake of breath. Devin stirred a bit, but didn't notice anything.

Nikki yawned. "...Hello...?"

Devin's mother bowed her head. "Take good care of him." She lingered at the doorway for a few seconds and then headed down the hall to her bedroom. Devin continued sleeping.

He blinked. "Take care...?"

Devin's eyes flickered open. "Hmm?"

"Your mom said 'take good care of him'."

"My mom? What?" he rubbed his eyes and grabbed his glasses from the night stand.

"I dunno what she meant..."

He slipped his glasses on and sat up. "Me either."
