Hallo there -
Yayz! Now I'll post my story, I call it: The Old Necklace
OK, here it is:
It was Hetty's 14th birthday, on the 17th of November.
She woke up and washed her face, she brushed her teeth and changed her clothes, she was so happy because of her special day, she decided to part her gold hair and make a fringe, her freckles were starting to go away now, but her eyes were still a honey brown as they ever were.
She came out, and as soon as she opened the door her mother shrieked with delight and hugged her.
"Happy birthday!" she cried with joy, and handed her a pink bag with pictures of different colored balloons containing four different presents, all in shiny wrapping paper, one a shiny blue, one silver, one gold, and one red.
"Thanks mum!" she cried with delight and gave her a kiss on her forehead.
"Your welcome" and her mother left to go
Buy the cake for her birthday party this afternoon, so she went back in to her room, and put all four presents on her bed and stared at them.
"Hmmm…" she said, "which one should I open first?"
She decided to close her eyes and choose randomly, so she closed her eyes tight and moved her hand about several times until it touched a present; she grabbed it and opened her eyes.
It was the gold one.
"Oh, OK then" and she opened it with difficulty, but was surprised at what she saw.
It was a box of three different watches, one orange, one yellow and one blue; they had small crystals with the same colors all around the watch.
"Wow! They look so pretty!" and she put them to one side and decided to close her eyes and pick randomly once more.
It was the blue one.
"OK, let's see what it is"
And slowly she started to open it, and here, she was really incredulous at what she got, it's like her father knew what she wanted at all times.
It was a painting set, with twelve different sized brushes, and a box of twelve paints, with three canvases and a wooden painting palette.
"Oh my!" she exclaimed, "I love to paint! These are so cool!"
She stared at the paints and brushes a bit more, and then put them with the watches.
She then picked randomly once more, and when she opened her eyes she found that it was the red one, she noticed that it was the smallest of the four gifts.
It was a necklace, but it looked very hoary and timeworn.
"This is weird…" she said and stared at the
Necklace, it had a locket attached to it, but it wouldn't open, it was made of gold and had a single pearl in the middle, she wondered what it was.
"I've no idea what this is" she said, "but it seems pretty strange"
She then decided to open the silver present and leave the necklace alone for now.
It was a parcel, with a thin black string tied to it, so she opened it, and it was a book, it looked very old, just like the necklace, she flicked through the pages, they were all blank.
"I don't think mother would want me to write in this because it looks really old and worn" she said to herself.
But the last page had a poem on it, written in very cursive handwriting, it looked very old and faded away, but she managed to read what it said, it was a very long poem, and she wondered what it was for.
How would the world be
And how would it cope
People just can't seem to see
People with good hearts cannot find hope
Yell for mercy but you will get nothing
Beneath their cruelty, is a sparkle of kindness
Is this a miracle? Could there actually by happiness?
Right now, someone could have a good heart
To those that have been good from the start
Have you shined your goodness in this naughty world?
Did you help those cruel hearts of those boys and girls?
And did you remember to say thank you
Yet, all those people did all they could do
***
"This is a very long poem" she noted, and she decided to read it once more.
"I just don't get it" so she went to her grandfather to ask him what exactly was this.
"Ah" he said and smiled, "This, my dear Hetty is a puzzle you must solve"
"Do you know the answer? And who wrote this?"
"Your grandmother wrote it before she died last year, and told me to give it to you on your nearest birthday, which is now, and the locket is also from her, she said that if you solved the riddle then you would be able to open the locket"
She looked confused and said: "But I, I'm not very clever, how am I going to solve this riddle?"
"I don't know, but I don't know the answer myself"
After that, Hetty sat in her room and read the poem over and over, what was she trying to figure out exactly?
And that's when it came to her.
"I think it spells out something" she said, and ran her hand on the letters and words.
And did you remember to say thank you
Yet, all those people did all they could do
"It spells "Happy Birthday"!" she cried.
"But how will this open the locket?" she asked herself.
She picked up the locket and examined it once more, she looked at every detail, and saw what seemed to be buttons.
Yes, buttons, they covered the whole locket's outline from A to Z, little tiny letters that you press.
And she knew what she had to do.
"H" she said, and pressed it, "A, P, P, Y, B, I, R, T, H, D, A and Y"
As she pressed the letter 'Y', the locket burst out open, and there, were three things, in the picture on the right was a picture of Hetty as a baby, and on the left was a picture of her grandma, and a tiny piece of paper inside said: Dear Hetty.
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone away from this cruel land,
But I will always love you dear,
Because you were always clever here
"Wow" said Hetty, "This is the best gift I ever got!"
THE END -
LOL! It's longer than I thought it would be! Oh well.
-
Please tell me what you thought of it. I would really appreciate it like the other one.
-
Oh, and I tried to use less "Said"s as you suggested, Ting!
-
Well done my child--oh wow I really do act like some old chinese dude who sits on a temple all day...ah well, I like talking like that so expect to hear it!
-
