Chapter Two.
"Xylia! Xoco! Come here, I want to talk to you,"
They both headed towards the kitchen where their grandmother was waiting for them.
"Listen, I'm going to have to leave for a while, I'm going to the hospital to be nursed, and, well, you're going to have to stay at a friend of mine's house, she's the same as you two, got six grandkids and their mum and dad had died in a car crash,"
"Oh my," said Xoco, "That sounds really bad,"
"I know, I feel sorry for them, but their house is huge and they said that they had plenty of room for you two… It's only for a week,"
"We understand, grandma," said Xylia, "When will we be leaving?"
"Tomorrow,"
"Alright then, shall we pack?"
"Let's have dinner first, you silly girls,"
They were eating roast potatoes with peas, gravy and butter chicken. Little did the poor twins know that this meal with their grandmother would be their last.
That night, they packed up all their belongings in two black suitcases, they put all their pajamas and clothes in, along with their shoes and some of their possessions, but they both felt a bit depressed, they didn't want to leave, and they feared for their grandma, what was she doing, exactly? Was she terribly sick?
Xylia sat on her bed and wondered about the six children, were they naughty and horrible? And did they make a riot and scream a lot? Or were they nice, sensible people and would welcome them with open arms?
Whereas Xoco was writing poetry, she grabbed her pen and pulled out her notebook, and wrote.
Hope
You're leaving soon,
And I'm afraid,
On tomorrow afternoon,
Will be a scary day,
Please don't leave,
I'll miss you so,
I try to be brave,
And that, you know
She showed it to Xylia. "That's great!" she said, "I really like it,"
"Thanks," she said solemnly and lay on her bed for a while.
"Listen, Xoco," said Xylia, "I know you're upset, but it's only for a week, what harm could it be?"
"I know," she moped, "I just wish we didn't have to bother,"
"Well it's not gran's fault, is it?"
"No," she sighed, "It's nobody's,"
"Just go to sleep," she promised, "Everything will be Ok,"

The following day, they drove towards the Park family, Paiva Park was the grandmother that lived in the small tall and thin house, she was short with a hunched back and frizzy grey hair with streaks of white, wrinkled skin and beady pale green eyes, she wore a purple shawl and a grey shirt underneath.
Their house was a beautiful pale blue like the sky, with a faded white roof and arched windows with irisis and roses blooming on each balcony, the garden was over grown and untaken care of, but that just added to it's beauty, there was a raspberry tree in one corner of the garden and some had fallen on to the over grown grass, there were stone walkways and flower beds everywhere.
"Hello," said Paiva as they reached the door, "My, what beautiful girls,"
They both smiled sweetly at her, staying here wasn't going to be so bad, after all.
They put their bags on the creaky old oak wooden floor, and peered round the room, the light here was dim and the curtains were drawn, there was a sofa with patterns of lilies and violets, a grey furr carpet under it and lost of pictures and paintings of boats and the sea.
"Wow," said Xylia, "It's lovely here,"
And indeed it was.
"I'll introduce you to my grandkids, two are grown up, one's twenty-three and is working, the other is twenty five and got married a while ago, so only four are here at the moment," then, she turned towards the stairs and called the children down.
Three boys and one girl. The girl came down first, she looked about seven or eight, with straight dark brown hair, chocolate brown eyes to match, and pale yellow skin, she was wearing a stripy woolly jacket and she smiled sweetly and genuinely nice at them.
"Hello!" she said, "My name is Helen,"
"We're Xylia and Xoco, nice to meet you,"
Then, a boy of the three came down, black hair, tanned skin, blue eyes as dark as a raging storm in the sea.
"I'm Tad, nice to meet you both,"
The second boy, curly black hair that reached to his shoulders, thick eye brows and a stern expression.
"I'm Dako," he said simply, and shook their hands.
The last boy came in, pale skin and dark blue eyes like Tad's, and black hair like his two brothers.
"I'm Xavier, nice to meet you,"
Both girls looked at eachother.

Chapter Three
Xylia and Xoco were amazed by Xavier, they found out that he loved poetry and animals, and he helped his grandma around the house, they were fascinated by the way he bent down to pick up something, and the way his throat gently curved, the way his nose was slightly curved.
Tad and Dako saw none of this, they were always out doing something, taking a walk, or going to the park, or even just playing with eachother, sometimes they ate biscuits alone in the kitchen, but never invited Xylia and Xoco, they weren't mean to them, but they just wanted to have little to do with them as possible.
As for Helen, she had caught a cold and never left her bed, she tried her best to make contact and talk but it was extremely hard for her, she felt dizzy as soon as she lifted her head off the pillow.
So it was only Xavier that they saw the most, not that that bothered them much, his deathly pale skin were like a million pearls glowing together and polished just for their delight, and he had caught them both staring at him more than once.
One day, Xoco decided to make something as a gift for her grandmother in the hospital, because Paiva had told them that she would visit their grandma, Xoco was thinking of making a card, but wasn't so sure she wanted to do it by herself, Xylia had gone out with a friend of hers to her house for homework and Xoco was deeply depressed because she had not been invited. First her grandmother leaves, now this?
Xoco felt her heart ache because she didn't want to lose her sister, she was the only thing left she had, if her grandma was nowhere, then her sister was all she could turn to, but if she was going away from her… Then she would be all alone with no one to cry with her.
She sat in her on the dark wooden floor, and stared out at the world, there were clouds in the sky and all the buildings seemed grey, it wouldn't be enough to rain, but sunlight would not come through. The world was quiet here.
She felt an instant gloom and wanted to turn away, but she felt held back, she just kept staring, like nothing could stop her feeling what she was, like her heart was a house that was abandoned ad forgotten, the moss growing on its sandstone walls and the flowers wilted and died because they were uncared for, and dust gathered on the window sills and cracks in the doors.
Like nobody cared.
She closed her eyes for a moment. The world was gloomy and grey, black clouds like puffs of smoke, she was running in a forest of black tree barks and silver leaves, cracked and brittle, falling slowly down to the ashen earth, the branches curved like they meant to snatch her, she was looking up at the sky, this image had no sun, no light shining through. It was not a world of sadness and depression. It was a world of emptiness, like something was missing, like the key to a treasure lost and thrown down to the very depths of the sea and be lost forever.
The image in her imagination changed, she was still going deeper in to the forest, listening to the sounds, the screeches of the birds in the shadows, the footsteps of the creatures that could tear her limb from limb if she was not careful.
Then, in her image, she reached a chest, a red leather one bound with golden straps and a gold key hole, there was no key.
She had lost hope, nothing could open this thing, nothing could open this chest, inside it was the heart that she could not have back, the happiness that she could never have, unless someone would give it to her.
Who was the thief of her heart?
Who could give her happiness once more?
She knew that there was one thing she desired, but she did not know what it was for a while.
Until the voice came…
"Xoco?" it cried, "Xoco! Where are you?"
The image was slowly fading in her mind, but she held it firm.
In the forest, she turned round, the voice was getting nearer, like tides rushing to the shore of the beach, closer and closer until…
"Xavier?" she said, and out in the distance, she could see a figure, with a stern expression and sea blue eyes, running towards her.
As he got closer, the chest in her mind slowly began to open up, it was unlocked, happiness was rushing her way, and an everlasting golden light opened up from the chest, and suddenly the world had a pale blue sky, with puffy white clouds, leaves as green as emeralds and jades, and flowers blooming in corners and beds, slowly opening up and letting out a rich smell, wafting through the gusts of wind that the breeze carried, the grass grew taller. Butterflies were everywhere, beautiful creatures with pearly wings. The image was a beautiful Spring day, here was happiness.
Then, when Xavier reached her in her image, she smiled and ran towards him, rushing through time, trying not to go under, and she reached for his arms, and rested her head under his chin, a hug.
He was the only thing that could make her happy, he was the only thing that could make her smile, he was the only thing that’s he ever wanted, and he was the only sun that could shine over her world.
She snapped out of this day dreaming, and found herself back in the room, and heard his voice calling for her once more.
"Xoco?" he said, coming in to the room, he sat down beside her in front of the window, put his hand gently on her shoulder, and shook her. She turned and looked at him, and caught his gaze, the gentle bright blue eyes, like she was swimming in the middle of the sea… Lost in them…
She then realized she was in love with Xavier.
