Chester forced a smile and nodded. ‘Yep. Very sure.’

Jayden knew he was lying, but sighed. "Fine. But you can tell me if I'm doing something wrong, I won't get upset with you."

‘You’re not doing anything wrong,’ Chester said quietly.

Jayden didn't say anything, leaning into him slightly.

Chester buried his face in Jayden’s shirt.

Jayden held him close. "Chester, I'm not going to ask again, but could you please tell me what's wrong?"

Chester sighed. ‘I-I just- I dunno, I said that I loved you and you didn’t say it back… sorry, it’s stupid..’

Jayden froze up slightly- Great, it's exactly what you thought it was- before grabbing his hands. "Hey, I-I love you, I promise. It's not stupid. I'm so sorry."

Chester looked at him, then looked down. ‘It is, I shouldn’t me upset you don’t want to say it.’

"You shouldn't be." Jayden agreed. "Because I should've said it earlier." He sighed, looking down. He didn't want to admit why he didn't say it.

‘W-Why didn’t you, though?’ Chester asked quietly.

"I-it's stupid." Jayden mumbled, looking down.

‘It’s not stupid,’ Chester mumbled, holding him closer. ‘I just want to know.’

"I thought that if I told you I loved you, it'd be giving you permission to do whatever you wanted. That you'd get bored and find someone else, or want more. I thought that you knowing I loved you would be the beginning of the end." Jayden stared at the floor, trying to stop tears from welling up in his eyes. "It's pathetic."

Chester was silent for a moment. He pressed a gentle kiss to Jayden’s forehead, then pulled away slightly so he could look him in the eye. ‘It’s not pathetic. I just wanted you to know that I loved you. And I didn’t want you to be uncomfortable with me saying it. I get it, darling,’ he said softly.
