Jayden practically froze when he realized who the man was.
Benji however, didn't freeze at all, or even seem a little unbothered. "Jayden!" He said in a very pleasant voice. "I haven't seen you in forever, baby!" Jayden glared, squeezing Chester's hand tight, and tried not to think about punching his ex too much.
"Why are you here?" He asked quietly. -
Chester gently rubbed the back of Jayden’s hand. He exhaled shakily. Maeve was glaring daggers into Beatrice. ‘So you both have a psycho ex?’ she asked the two kings.
‘Darling, that’s not very nice,’ Beatrice chided, standing up and patting her head, then walking over to Chester. She wrapped her arms around his waist, pulling him away from Jayden. ‘We just had to come see you two~’
‘How’d you get in?!’ Chester snapped, pulling away.
‘The guards let us.’
‘You bribed them.’
‘Maybe.’ -
Jayden tried to step forward to grab Chester's hand again only to get stopped by Benji, who put his hands on his shoulders and gave him one of those little half hugs people do.
"I mean, can you blame us for wanting to see you? It's been so long after all~" Benji ruffled Jayden's hair once he pulled away. Jayden wanted to shove him, but stayed still instead. -
Chester shoved Beatrice away. ‘Well, you’re not welcome here. Get out, both of you,’ he snapped.
Beatrice leaned in close, whispering something in his ear. Chester’s face paled.
‘You wouldn’t.’
‘I would,’ Beatrice smirked, kissing his cheek. ‘So give us a room in the east quarters for one or two nights.’
Chester’s fists clenched. ‘Fine.’ Beatrice pat his shoulder and went to sit down. -
Jayden looked at Chester in concern. "What was that abou-"
"-Don't worry about it, sweetheart." Benji said in one of those manipulative 'you better not worry about it' tones before sitting next to Beatrice. Obviously, that made Jayden worry even more. -
Chester exhaled shakily and wrapped his arm around Jayden’s waist.
Maeve looked at Chester. ‘You did not just-‘
‘I did,’ Chester said, giving her a look before sitting down opposite the two. He grabbed out his pocket watch, fidgeting hardcore with the chain.
‘Baby, what’s been going on? Did you end up getting that chandelier fixed?’ Beatrice asked in a sickeningly sweet tone.
Chester’s grip on Jayden tightened. ‘No, it’s still very broken.’ -
Jayden noticed the tension and looked at Maeve, silently asking her to tell him what was going on. She just shook her head slightly.

Chester flicked his pocket watch open and closed. Beatrice smirked, knowing she’d struck a nerve.
‘But it’d look so nice in the ballroom, wouldn’t it?’
‘We don’t use the ballroom,’ Chester said. ‘I-It’s very unused.’
‘Such a shame.’ -
"No hosting?" Benji asked in surprise, like that was some sort of law Chester broke. "No parties? How do you live?"
Jayden tried to tune out both of them, but it didn't work. -
‘I live fine, thank you very much,’ Chester snapped, shooting a glare at Benji. Somehow he hated the human more than his own ex, which was saying something.

"I'm sure you do." Benji said in that sassy way Christian ladies say 'oh bless her heart' because I've decided he has that sort of condescending voice when he gets smug. Jayden glared, leaning his head on Chester's shoulder.

Chester rubbed Jayden’s side with his thumb, exhaling sharply. ‘And I suppose you do better then, Mr I’ve-never-washed-my-hair-in-my-life?’ he said, gesturing to Benji’s slicked back hair.

"You think yours looks any better? I mean, you've already got a few gray hairs coming in!"
"That's enough, both of you." Jayden responded, looking down. -
Chester opened his watch and looked at himself in the mirror in the lid. ‘I do not!’ he protested, ignoring Jayden because his totally nonexistent gray hairs were very important.

How come his watch has a mirror in the lid and mine don't- Jayd elbowed him. "Calm down." He murmured. "You don't have any gray hairs and he knows it, now please stop yelling."
