  One mathematician says to another, "I have 3 daughters and the product of their ages is 72, but the sum of their ages is equal to the number on the house across the street."
  The second mathematician thinks for a second then says, "I can't guess their ages, you haven't given me enough information. "
  The first mathematician rolls his eyes and says, "the oldest one likes chocolate. "
  To which the second replies, "oh, I know it now."
  
  What are the ages of his 3 daughters, and how did the second mathematician figure it out?

  3, 3 and 8 (I think this is is)
  There has to be one eldest because the guy mentions that there's "the oldest one" implying only one has one age and the other two are younger. Since 3x3 = 9 and 9x8 = 72, it's got to be this. Right?

  But there are many numbers that that could work for.
  1x1x72
  1x2x36
  2x2x18
  1x4x18
  1x8x9
  Etc.

  True. I didn't think of the other combinations, as 3x3x8 is the first that occurred to me.

  It's correct, and there is a way to eliminate the others, but that's why having people explain how they got their answers matters.

  Johnie and his friend Jake were driving. Jake was driving, and Johnie sat in the passengers seat. After a while, Johnie got a little tired so he told Jake he was going to sleep for a while, and to wake him up after it had been an hour. So Johnie fell asleep at seven, slept for an hour, and then Jake woke him up, and it was still seven. How is this possible.
  
  (Told this to a few kids at school, they couldn't figure it out I laughed)
