Darkness. That was all I remembered after she had disappeared. Darkness and an unbearable sadness. Was she dead? I didn't know. No one did. She just...left. Nothing was found. The police were stumped, they searched for exactly seventeen days before giving up. "She's gone. We're sorry." Sorry. They were sorry. As though a simple apology could somehow patch the hole in my heart...
Chapter One: A New Beginning
I opened my eyes to the blaring of an alarm. My arm shot out and silenced the clock. I could no longer rely on my mother to keep me on schedule. She had been more than a bit detached since my sister had disappeared. I dragged myself out of bed with a groan, swiping at my eyes in a weak attempt to rid the sleep from them. I groggily made my way to the vanity of my new room. Today would be my first day at Blustone High School. My mother had moved us to rural Pensylvania recently, claiming that our old home contained too many memories. We now lived in a tucked away town, nonexsistant on most maps. My finger traced along the frame of my sister's picture out of habit. I glanced at myself in the mirror. My dark hair was wildly tangled, my skin still tingled with fatigue. I examined my face. Skin as pale as the rest of my body, pale lips, and the green eyes I shared with my sister. I sighed, rubbing my face tiredly. This was a new start, a new beginning. If I was ever going to get anywhere, I had to stop relating everything back to her.

Characters and users will be introduced slowly, so please, don't pressure too much. Also, if I stick you in, you'll have a different name, so I'll be sure to specify. Thanks! ^-^) -

I pulled on a t-shirt and some jeans. No need to be too fancy, right? I shoveled some cereal into my mouth before heading out to the curb. My mother had still been sleeping, I'd see her when I got home. I stood in the cool air, letting my mind wander absently, until I was interrupted by the sound of footsteps approaching. I turned to see two people approaching me. One was a boy, one a girl. They both looked about my age, sixteen, and each had a backpack slung over one shoulder. As they moved closer, the boy raised a hand. "Hey," He called. "You must be the new girl who just moved in." The two stopped next to me, and I got a closer look at them. The boy had sand-colored hair and gray eyes, and his smile held a bit of mischief in it. "I'm Jake." He said, grinning at me. I smiled at him just slightly. "I'm Lucy, but most people call me Lucky." He nodded and flashed that contagious grin again. "Lucky...I like it." The girl took a step forward. Her hair was warm brown, but when she tilted her head the early sunlight made it look gold. Her eyes were hidden behind a pair of dark sunglasses, and a pair of cherry red earbuds dangled down the sides of her face. "Nikki." She offered, making a peace sign. I nodded and my smile widened. Something about these people made me happy. Maybe this is what it was like having friends. Of course, I'd had some people to hang out with before, but none had been willing to truly become my friend. They certainly hadn't been as welcoming as Jake and Nikki were. "Welcome to Wildheart." Nikki added. "What's Wildheart?" I asked. Jake pointed behind me. I turned to see a large sign. It did, indeed, read, "WELCOME TO WILDHEART" in large block letters. "That's the name of our development. Your new home." He explained. "Cool." I answered. I liked the name, and if I did have to accept a new home, this seemed like a good place to be.

I'll see what I can do. :3)
We stood there only a moment more before the bus pulled up. The old vehicle had obviously seen better days. The stop sign creaked hidiously as it unfolded from the bus, and the varying shades of yellow told stories of multiple paint jobs. The name of the high school had probably been printed on it's side at some point, but now all it said was:
BL S O H GH
Nikki clambered on, and I felt obligated to follow. We sat towards the middle of the bus. The back was off limits until we hit twelfth grade, at least, that's how things had been before I moved to Wildheart. I found myself placed next to Nikki, who immediately began chatting with the girl behind us. Jake swung into the seat across from us, next to another guy our age. He had dark curly hair and when he looked at me I was caught off-guard by his ice-blue eyes. They watched me, sizing me up for a few intense seconds before seemingly deciding I was fit to talk to. Immediately his serious demeanor faded away, and when he smiled at me he looked even more the trouble-maker type than Jake did. "Who's the fresh meat?" He asked with a slight laugh. "I'm Lucky." I supplied, raising a brow. "And you are?" He straightened up. "I'm Luke. World-famous prankster and very single." He winked at me. I snorted and rolled my eyes, and I could feel myself blushing. He laughed, his eyes shining. "I'm just messing with you." He faced Jake and nodded. "I like her. Even if she can't take a joke." I raised both my eyebrows this time, but couldn't resist grinning. The ride was shorter than I expected, and the high school was smaller than I had imagined. Then again, it was a small town. I winced inwardly. A small town meant most of them already knew each other. To them, I was an intruder. An outsider. I did find comfort in the fact that I had not yet been excluded, but it was only a matter of time before I made some enemies. Nikki, Jake, Luke, and myself all piled out of the bus, followed by the girl Nikki had been talking with. She had short brown hair that fell just below her ears, giving her a delicate, almost pixie-like look. There was a bleach blonde streak down one side, and her pale hazel eyes were framed by long lashes. She smiled sweetly at me. "Lucky, right?" I nodded. "That's cute. I'm Penny." I gave her a small smile, the same one I seemed to be using a lot recently. "So are you the one who moved here 'cause her sister's dead or something?" I froze. My body was completely still except for my trembling hands. "I...I..." I closed my eyes. "Penny!" Nikki chided. "Don't be rude!" "What?" The other girl answered defensively. I still couldn't move, she wasn't dead, she couldn't be. I was thrust back into reality when someone grabbed my arm and pulled me a few feet away. "...Sorry about Penny. She sweet, but she can be a little blunt...sometimes." I glanced up. It was Luke. I tried to calm my shaking hands and forced myself to move naturally. "That's okay." I murmured. Soon enough we were surrounded again by Jake, Nikki, and Penny, who apologized. She sounded so guilt I couldn't stop myself from forgiving her. The five of us were soon talking normally again, and together we took the first steps into my new school. It sounds strange, but...I was happy. It was a distraction from all the hard things in my life. For once I was just out, being a stupid teenager. I liked it.

The building itself looked about as old as the buses, with ancient polished-stone floors and thick walls. It was sturdy, that was probably why it had been here so long. We all had to split up once we got into the school, Nikki, Penny, and Luke headed one way while Jake and I headed another. We had different homerooms, but it was nice being able to walk with him for a bit. When I stepped into the classroom, it was completely empty. We must've been early. The lights were on, though, so I entered and took a seat towards the back of the classroom. I sat like that for a few moments, until I saw the drawings on the blackboard. They covered the entire thing, I couldn't believe I'd missed them when entering the room. I stood up, walking closer to the board to get a better look. In the center was a beautifully intricate drawing of a bird. It was surrounded by diagrams of feathers, talons, and one other sketch that caught my eye. It seemed to be one of those size-scaled drawings, but I must've been wrong. No bird was bigger than a grown man, like the one in the drawing..."Ahem," I flinched with a startled gasp and turned away from the board to see who had arrived to join me. The woman, no doubt the teacher, was young, she looked in her twenties. Her hair was black as night, and the pin-straight locks fell down her back. Her eyes were crystal blue, and peered at me questioningly. Almost accusingly. I stumbled back from the board and returned to my seat. The woman quickly picked up an eraser, and in a matter of seconds the artwork was reduced to a cloud of white dust, which swirled around for a split-second before disappearing. "...Did you draw that?" I asked timidly. The teacher looked at me incredulously. "Does it matter?" I shook my head. "No, but-" I was cut off by the sound of screaming. Both our eyes widened, but my tensed muscles relaxed when another girl walked in, her mouth opened mid-shreik, completely unharmed. She had curly red-brown hair and dark chocolate-colored eyes. It's alive!" She wailed, before seeming to realize where she was. She blinked and smiled at the teacher, who looked exasperated but relieved. "Oh, hi Ms. Silver!" I didn't know why she was yelling to someone five feet away, but at least now I knew the teacher's name. "I was just practicing my part for this year's play. I know it's not for months, but you can't be too prepared, right?" Her bright smile and rapid speaking were giving me a headache, and her neon clothes only added to my pain, but at least she was friendly. "And then I was thinking- wait! Who's that?!" She screeched, jabbing a finger in my direction. Ms. Silver smiled, grateful for an opportunity to speak. "I was wondering that myself, Kat." They both looked at me. "I'm Luck- er, I'm Lucy. Lucy Laverre." I stuttered, nearly forgetting that my nickname wouldn't appear on Ms. Silver's class list. "Most people call me Lucky."
