'Tis fine. The newbie must be unaware that homosexuals are well-supported here. They wanted to make a place where they and others with their preferences could feel comfortable discussing their sexuality. They did not know that place is practically anywhere on this site. Why would you feel the need to tear down their happiness the way that you do?

Testing the reasoning behind an action only tears it down if it's flawed. Asking if its really necessary is a fair and polite question.
