"It's made by the best, for the best!" Cyril said enthusiastically with a grin. He continued to chow down on his waffle, while taking a few moments to eat the sausage and eggs as well. "Next time, you should definitely try their breakfast. It's to die for!" He shoved another piece of waffle into his mouth, and took a sip of his drink. Oliver continued to eat his burger and fries. Honestly, he was ready to go home. He took a deep breath, and leaned over to Cyril. "Do you mind pausing this conversation and taking me home? We can pick this up at another time." He whispered into Cyril's ear. He didn't want to be rude to Kori, who seemed nice enough, but his social battery was running out. He didn't mind hanging out with Cyril, or other people but he needed to recharge. He started to fiddle with the end of his hoodie sleeves under the table. Cyril nodded, then looked at Kori.
"Well, I hate to cut this rendezvous short, especially when we just got our food, but Oliver needs to go home." Cyril took a deep breath. "Before we start leaving, do you mind going to get some to-go boxes so we can put our food away, and take it with us?" He asked Oliver. Oliver nodded his head, and got up from the table leaving Cyril and Kori alone. Cyril took this opportunity to ask Kori a question. "Do you happen to have your phone on you?" -
"Oh- uhm, yeah, I do," Kori Jane replied with a nod, glancing to the pocket of her sweater with her phone and her small note pad. "And don't worry, I get it- I need to get back home soon, anyhow," she said with a quiet chuckle, running a hand through her hair.
-
Cyril looked at Kori for a moment. "Do you mind if I see it? I wanted to put my number in there. Just for us to keep in touch." Cyril and Kori were exchanging numbers, Oliver went toward the kitchen and waved at the waitress. It looked like she was the only one here tonight, which meant she was probably ready for this shift to be over. "I hate to bother you, but do you mind if I get three to-go containers?" He asked, almost a little too low for her to hear him. "Sure darling!" The waitress headed to the back, and came back with a set of silverware for each, some napkins, the to-go box and three bags. Oliver smiled. "And this is for the meal." He said, taking sixty dollars put of his pocket. "The rest is for you." The waitress smiles at Oliver. "Thank you so much!" After this, Oliver slowly made his way back to the booth.
-
"Oh- sure, yeah, go ahead," Kori replied with a smile, unlocking her phone and handing it to Cyril, taking his phone and putting her number in when he gave it to her.
-
Cyril quickly typed in his number, and handed the phone back with a slight smile. When he got his phone back, he set Kori's name to '💐Kori💐', and sent her a text that read:
Cyril: Hey, it's that random person that you ate food with this morning!
Oliver walked up to the table, and handed each one of them a to-go tray, along with all of the utensils. Oliver carefully packed his burger and fries into the styrofoam tray, and closed it up placing it gently into his back. He tied the two handles together, and was ready to go. He watched Cyril and Kori pack their items, and looked in Cyrils direction. "By the way, the meal is already covered; so no need to pay." He said, handing Cyril a small receipt. He took one last sip from his drink, and headed back outside to the car. Once there, he opened the passenger side door, and sat down.
Cyril watched Oliver walk away and he and Kori finished packing up their food. "He's a good kid, that one." He chuckled, as he stood up. "I'll meet you at the car." He made his way out of the restaurant, but right before he got to the car, he heard his phone buzz. He took the phone from his pocket, wondering who could be messaging him so early in the morning.
Unknown: Any leads yet?
Even though the number itself wasn't saved into his phone, he knew exactly it was. He took a deep breath, and quickly typed a response.
Cyril: Not of importance, although I did just have breakfast with his daughter, Hopefully that will get us somewhere.
Cyril quickly shoved the phone down into his pocket, and opened the drivers side door. He sat in the seat, his palms now slightly sweaty. All they needed was for Kori to hop in, then they would take her home. -
"Oh, that's so sweet of you for paying~" Kori Jane said with a giggle as she followed them out of the restaurant, staring at Cyril's contact on her phone for a moment. She changed his name in her phone, "cyril :)", and pocketed it after a moment, walking over to their car and hopping into the back again. "I suppose I'll have to pay next time we go out, then~"
-
Cyril looked at Kori through the rear-view window. "Sounds like a plan to me!" He said, grinning from ear to ear. He started the car, and reversed out of the parking space, and started the trek back to Kori's place. "Do you want to be dropped off at that building we met at, or is there another place you need to be dropped off?" Cyril asked, his curiosity peaked. He knew for a fact that Kori and her father weren't staying in that building; but he also didn't take Kori for a fool either. There was almost a 99% chance she wouldn't give either him or Oliver the location of her house, but he didn't blame her either. Her father was a man that many men were after, and if his home wasn't safe then what would be. Cyril's phone buzzed again in his pocket, but he ignored it for now.
-
"I can send you the address for my apartment," Kori Jane suggested as she pulled out her phone, sending Cyril the address. "Or you could just drop me off at the other spot and I can get my roommate to pick me up, either way-"
-
"Uh..." Cyril said, his hands gripping the steering wheel. "Either will be fine with me. If it's easier to go to your apartment, we can do that." He didn't even think that Kori would have had her own place. He didn't know why he thought she would be staying with, or around her dad. It was like a brief shot of clarity, and then a wave of shame. He should have thought about it. Oliver looked at Cyril. "If you are concerned about her safety, just take her to the apartment." Oliver yawned, and folded his arms over his chest. "I swear, sometimes you don't think Cyril."
-
Kori giggled softly at Oliver's remark, shaking her head. "Oh, you don't have to do that- it's a bit of a drive and I'd feel bad for making you go all that way," she spoke, resting her hands in her lap. "Plus, if it's my safety you're worried about, I assure you, I can handle myself very well~" She added with a smirk, crossing one leg over the other in her seat.
-
Cyril thought for a moment. "How about this? We'll drop you off at the building, since Oliver needs to get home too. If you need anything I am just a phone call away." He drove over to the building that they had met Kori in previously, and put the car in park. The building they had met in was some sort of warehouse. From what Cyril could tell it wasn't operational anymore, and during the day was used as a food bank. He had driven past here one day, and their were tables and boxes lined up. "Well," he said. "Here we are."
-
"Thanks for the ride, and for the food~" Kori said with a bright smile as she unbuckled, climbing out of the car. "We should totally hang out again soon, it was nice meeting the both of you~" She added with a giggle as she moved to the drivers side window Cyril rolled down, watching the boys with a smile.
-
"Same place tomorrow?" Cyril said with a chuckle. Oliver looked at him, and Kori. "I'll sit this one out, if you both don't mind. Nothing against either if you." He quickly added. "I just...have plans is all." He glanced at Kori. Deep down inside, he felt he should let Kori know about Cyril. What kind of person he was. How he could he ruthless, and quite crude at times. He bit the inside of his mouth, and inhaled sharply. "I do hope to see you soon though." Oliver gave Kori a slight smile. Cyril sat there for a moment, then looked at Kori once more. "Shoot me a text once you've made it home, that way I ally least know you made it home safely." Once that was said, Cyril gave a slight nod, rolled up his window and drove away.
Before they knew it, they were at Oliver's apartment. It was a tiny set of buildings on the other side of town. Each apartment had a small balcony out front, and welcome mats at the doors. Cyril pulled up, and Oliver stepped out of the car, taking his food with him. "Before you go." Cyril said, before Oliver was able to shut the door. "Don't go telling Kori anything. I know you think I'm in over my head, but I assure you I'm not." Oliver gritted his teeth, and cleared his throat. "We have been friends for how long? What makes you think anything is going to change now?" At this point, Oliver just wanted to go inside and get some rest. It had been a long and traumatizing day. "Don't think I didn't see you getting smart with me, just because Kori was in the car. Just because we are friends, don't forget who I am." Cyril looked at Oliver with a demeaning stare. "And no matter what you think you have, remember how generous my father was to your mother." Oliver looked down at his shoes, and felt a lump rise to his throat. He didn't say anything, but he hear the car door slam before he realized what he did.
He made his way upstairs, and quickly opened his apartment door. He took a deep breath and shut the door behind him. He kicked his shoes off next to the door, and placed his unfinished food on his kitchen counter. He had to take a shower, then he was going to bed. -
"I'll text you, don't worry," Kori Jane said with a giggle, nodding with a smile. "And we should totally do this again soon, let me know when you're free~" She added with a grin, waving goodbye before watching them drive off. Kori hummed as she pulled out her phone and texted her roommate, asking her to come pick her up. Her car soon pulled up and she rushed to the passenger seat, climbing in. "Kathy, I just had one of the best nights ever-"
"Oh yeah?" Kathy asked with a chuckle as she looked over, starting to drive again once Kori Jane settled in. "Was it with those boys you mentioned~?"
"Yes, and they're so nice- especially the one I told you about with the dark hair and those captivating eyes," Kori Jane said with a sigh, leaning back in her seat with a giggle. "His name's Cyril-"
"I think you mentioned that multiple times," Kathy spoke, giggling softly.
"Sorry, sorry, it's just- God, he really is so handsome," Kori Jane said with a laugh, shaking her head. "And he's very sweet and kind- he paid for my dinner and everything~" The girls soon arrived at the apartment, Kori continuing to go on and on about the "date". Well, she liked to think of it as a date, even though it wasn't anything romantic or one on one.
"But what about the other guy, Oliver, was it?" Kathy asked as they walked up to their apartment, pulling out her keys.
"Right, yes- he's very nice, too," Kori said with a smile, nodding. "He's rather cute, too, but- gosh, there's just something about Cyril that just, pulls me in~" She said with a sigh as she walked, slipping her shoes off. Kathy laughed softly as she watched Kori practically skip off to her room, shaking her head. "I might ask him to hang out again soon- hopefully he'll say yes~" She added, smiling as she poked her head back out.
"You better tell me everything- it's not every day Kori Jane Watkins has a crush~" Kathy teased with a chuckle, watching Kori stick out her tongue before closing her bedroom door. Kori giggled softly as she pulled out her phone, shooting a text to Cyril.
made it home safe, we should hang out
again soon!! :DD
She sighed with content as she set her phone down, starting to change out of her clothes. Things were starting to look up for Kori Jane, and she was ecstatic~ -
Oliver finished his shower, and threw on some pajamas. He walked into his bedroom, pulled back the blankets and crawled into bed. He stared at the ceiling thinking about Kori Jane Watkins. Despite who her father was, she seemed nice. He rolled over, facing the window that was in his room. He made up his mind that he would start sending her bouquets of flowers. He knew a rather nice florist that wasn't too far from here, and it wouldn't be hard to get them delivered discreetly. He ended up closing his eyes, and drifting away into a some-what peaceful slumber.
As Cyril was driving home, he felt another buzz from his phone. He decided since he wasn't too far from his place, he would just look at the text once he got home. Before he knew it, he approached the stone in-layed drive and smiled. He parked his car at the end of the driveway, and made his way to the front door. Unlike Kori, he still stayed with his father. Not that he couldn't make it on his own, but his father needed his help constantly. If it wasn't running the 'business', it was running errands until he felt like dropping. Cyril opened the front door, making note that none of the lights in the house were on. He took a deep breath and relaxed. Hopefully, this would be a rather peaceful night for him. He shut the front door, and hung his car keys on a hook that was next to the door.
He made his way into the hallway, and up the main set of stairs in the house. It was weird for the house to be this quiet. Cyril took out his phone, and saw two messages. One was from Kori, and the other from the unknown number his dad had been messaging from.
Kori: made it home safe, we should hang out again soon!! :DD
Cyril thought about Kori's text for a moment, then sent a quick response.
Cyril: I would love too! Do you have any particular place in mind? :)
The next message was from his dad, which put an ease to the sense of dread that had been building within Cyril's chest.
Unknown: Sending someone to pick you up at 10 a.m. Be ready. I won't be home tonight. I have business to attend to.
Cyril made his way to the bathroom, took a shower, then headed to bed. It seemed like tomorrow was going to be a full day for him.
