George pulled his hand away, quickly standing and grabbing one of the green washcloths on the counter. He soaked it in cold water and moved back to Clay. “Can- can I put this on the back of your neck? It might help-“

Clay moved back from the toilet and sat down on the floor, exhaling shakily. He nodded after a moment, burying his face in his balled up hands.

George gently brushed some of Clay’s hair up his neck, draping the cold washcloth over it. “Take a deep breath, hun, it’s gonna be okay.”

Clay exhaled shakily, nodding. He took a few deep breaths, calming down a little. He leaned back against the wall, squeezing his eyes shut.

“Good,” George said softly, offering his hand but saying nothing. “Think of good stuff. Like- the times in the garden.”

Clay nodded a little, inhaling and exhaling softly. He pulled his balled up hands from his face and opened his eyes, glancing over at George and carefully taking his hand. He closed his eyes again, leaning back against the wall.

George squeezed his hand, gently smiling. “Do you feel sick? Or just upset?”

“I- I think I’m just o-overwhelmed,” Clay muttered, his hands shaking.

“Yeah, that’s okay,” George said softly, nodding. “We can just sit here for a while. If you need anything, let me know, okay?”

Clay nodded a little and exhaled shakily, leaning back against the wall. He gently squeezed George’s hand, staring at the floor as he tried to calm down.

George squeezed Clay’s hand back, moving to sit next to him, just enough so that their sides weren’t touching.

Clay took deep breaths as he rubbed the back of George’s hand slowly, closing his eyes.

George tried to stay quiet as to not upset Clay anymore.

“I’m sorry, I- I didn’t mean to freak you out,” Clay spoke softly, looking over at George.

“It’s okay, I get it,”George whispered, squeezing Clay’s hand. “I’m sorry your mom said that.”
