“Ungrateful,” She muttered as they turned a corner, folding her hands in front of her.
-
Clay clenched his hands into fists before stuffing them into the pockets of his jacket, rolling his eyes.
-
“Also, fix your hair, it looks awful,” She said, giving him a sideways glance.
-
Clay sighed and ran his hands through his hair a few times, re-fixing it.
-
“Oh, that’ll have to do,” She said, sighing quietly. They came around a corner and a slender girl with a longer gown was stood. She smiled politely when she saw them, bowing her head. “I’m sure you two had met at the ball already-“
-
"Sure, yeah," Clay replied, a vague memory of the girl going through his head. He kind of blocked out most of the night, the only things he really remembered were that one princess with a girlfriend and sneaking away to be with George. He smiled a little at the thought before it disappeared, remembering where he was.
-
“Nonetheless- We’ve set up a small lunch for you two, just follow me,” The queen said with a smile.
-
Clay exhaled softly and nodded, following after his mother and the princess reluctantly.
-
She led them into a small room overlooking the garden, a table set for two in the center. “Have a seat~ The food will be served shortly.”
-
Clay nodded and sat down, crossing his arms over his chest.
-
“So, uh, Clay,” Brigid said after a moment of silence. “How have you been since the ball?”
-
“I’ve been fine,” Clay spoke a tad rigidly, leaning back in his seat a little.
-
“Are you alright? Is there somewhere you need to be right now?” She asked softly when the queen left the room.
-
“No, I’m- I’m fine, don’t worry about me,” Clay said, exhaling softly. “How uh, how’ve you been? Y’know, since the party?”
-
“Good, good,” Brigid said with a small smile. The door opened and George strolled in with a few servers behind him. He pressed his lips together as he saw the two, moving to present the food. “For lunch we have ham and cucumber sandwiches, with honey and sea salt spread across.”
