"And what, exactly, would that achieve?" Ernie asked, frowning. "I mean, it's messed up to take away her memories without asking, but what would that fix? Her not going to the villages? In case you haven't noticed, I'm far from the coolest and most interesting thing in any of those villages. She'd explore anyways." Ernest shrugged.

Mahina nodded. ‘What he said. Except the part about not being cool.’
Hendrik rolled his eyes. -
Ernest looked at Hendrik defiantly. If he was going to lose his memories- something he unfortunately, thought he'd have to endure at this point- he wasn't going down without a fight. "Any good arguments for why she should forget me?" He asked, looking at Callisto and Selene.

Mahina glanced at the two women, curious as to how they’d respond.
Callisto looked very angry. ‘How dare you speak to me like that?! I ought to-‘
Selene interrupted her. ‘It would be a lot safer,’ she insisted. -
Ernest hated to admit it, but Selene had a good point. "Aren't there better, easier solutions than going straight to us both forgetting each other though?" He asked, both to prove a point, and because he really, really hoped there were better solutions.

Hendrik shook his head. ‘No. This must be done,’ he said, raising his wand.
Mahina cried out, burying her face back in Ernest’s shirt. ‘No!’ -
Ernie adjusted Mahina's position so she wouldn't get hit if Hendrik aimed the wand at the two of them, dreading what could happen next. He held her tight.

Hendrick didn’t do anything. He seemed to falter as Ernest held Mahina tighter.

Ernest watched, eyes widening.

Mahina couldn’t see what was happening. She whimpered.
Selene watched in shock.
Callisto looked at her husband. ‘Hendrick? Why are you pausing?’ -
Ernie heard Mahina and immediately turned around to face her. "It's ok, it's ok." He said softly. "Remember, I said I wouldn't let anyone hurt you." He kissed the top of her head.

Mahina willed herself not to cry, but she almost didn’t believe him. She nodded weakly, bottom lip trembling.
‘Hendrik, get it over with!’ Callisto chided.
Hendrik’s wand hand shook. ‘I-I can’t.’ -
Ernest could hear what Callisto and Hendrik were saying, and he smiled, but he was more focused on helping Mahina. He ruffled her hair, hoping it'd bug her enough to distract her.

Mahina gave a weak smile. ‘Stop doing that,’ she mumbled, but didn’t sound at all irritated.
‘What do you mean, you can’t?’ Callisto demanded. -
Ernest shook his head, kissing Mahina's cheek.
"I mean, I can't!" Hendrik snapped.
