Ernie kissed the top of her head, opening the front door so he could leave.

Mahina ran forward and hugged him before he could leave. ‘Don’t collapse again out there, you hear?’

Ernest nodded, chuckling. "Loud and clear." He didn't let go of her for a while.

‘Good,’ Mahina said. She didn’t let go of him either.

Ernie eventually let go reluctantly, taking a couple steps outside.

Mahina watched him. She clenched her jaw.

Ernest walked towards the village before turning around and waving to her.

Mahina gave a weak smile and waved back.

Ernest smiled back before walking to the village.

Ernie walked into the village after a couple long, boring minutes.

When Mahina couldn’t see him anymore, she walked back inside. She wished she’d turned him into a frog or something and say that he couldn’t leave.

Ernest hated having to leave, but knew he'd see her later in the evening, so he tried not to dwell on it too much.

Mahina sighed. The dishes started cleaning themselves. She sat down.

Selene was on her way home. Ernie walked into the library and sat down, thinking about what just happened.
