Mahina buried her face in her hands.

Ernie noticed and grabbed her hands. "Hey, it'll be alright." He promised, still thinking. Maybe she could use magic to make him stay easier. He wouldn't mind being turned into a frog much if it meant he could stay in the house with her.

Mahina avoided his gaze. ‘What do we do?’

"I... I don't know." He sighed.

Mahina gazed down at his hands. Her mind was completely blank. If Selene found out she’d been housing a human…

"Look, I'll leave." Ernie said reluctantly. He lowered slightly so he could look her in the eye. "I will come back later though, I promise." He thought a bit more. "See if you can meet me by the ivy rock portal at sundown, alright?"

Mahina nodded. She didn’t like the thought, but it was better than nothing. ‘What.. what are you gonna do till then?’

Ernest shrugged. "I'll find something to do." He gave a small smile. He had a book in his satchel he could read if he got bored.

‘What about food? You’ll starve!’

"Hey." Ernest squeezed her hand. "I'll be fine. Don't worry about me."

‘I’m gonna worry about you,’ Mahina mumbled.

Ernie shook his head. "I'll go to the village and get some food or something, alright?"

‘Do you have any money?’

Ernest checked his satchel. "Two coins." It wasn't much, but it was enough to get him a solid meal or two for the day.

Mahina looked like she really wanted to say no, but she didn’t have a choice. ‘O-Ok,’ she mumbled.
