(lol)
Jayden didn't move away from him. He really didn't want to press Chester on the question and ruin the moment, but he knew time was ticking. "Chester?" He asked weakly. -
‘Yes, darling?’ Chester said, nuzzling into his neck.
-
Jayd sighed. "I'm... I'm really sorry to ask this, but you remember the conversation we had, about giving me some of your land?" His voice felt hollow, like it wasn't really him talking, as if he was reading something off of a script.
-
Chester pulled his head back, looking up at him. He noticed the tone in his voice and gently caresses his cheek. He knew Jayden, and he knew he’d never ask something like that. ‘I do.’
-
Jayden leaned into his touch. "Have... Have you come up with an answer?"
-
Chester sighed. ‘Jayden, I really love you, okay? But I… I don’t know what to say. I don’t really understand why you’d ask something like that.’
-
Jayd sighed shakily, trying to think of reasons to convince Chester to agree. Because his kingdom was bigger? It was a weak excuse. He already mentioned the population. He could guilt trip Chester, but he didn't know if he could go through with it. Threaten him? Caden did suggest that at one point... but he couldn't. The fact that the thought even crossed Jayden's mind made him feel like a horrible boyfriend.
A thought flashed through Jayden's mind. They did tell him to convince Chester anyway he could. Could telling him the truth make him agree, or make it ten times worse? -
Chester frowned when he didn’t respond. He kissed his cheek, then his nose. ‘Jayden?’ he said softly, noticing the expression on his face. ‘Baby, I’m not going to get mad. Tell me what’s wrong, please.’
-
Jayden's eyes closed, eyebrows knitting together out of frustration with himself. He eventually opened them after a bit of breathing exercises. "Chester, if I tell you, please don't overreact, ok? Don't tell the press why this happened, don't flip out over it, just... Don't." He knew it was an unfair thing to ask.
-
Chester’s frown deepened, but he nodded. ‘Jayden, you’re worrying me. I-I promise, okay? Just please tell me.’ He knew he couldn’t promise that. If what Jayden was about to tell him was as bad as he worried it was, he knew he was going to get worked up.
-
Jayd gave a small nod. "O-ok." He whispered before starting to talk. "I didn't want to ask you that, ok? Remember that meeting I couldn't talk to you about? If I told anyone, I'd get in massive trouble?" He started to explain everything, how the board forced him to do this, about the deadline, about how if he failed to convince him, or told anyone what was happening, Astrid would take over and Jayden would be back to having no control over what happens. He also said that Caden threatened to go to war with Chester's kingdom over it if he failed. He didn't realize he was crying- and he was crying hard- until he finished. "I'm so sorry." He whispered a while after.
-
Chester just sat there, staring at him for a moment, both slightly agape. He listened to Jayden intently, and when he was finished his arms around his boyfriend tighten. ‘Oh, sweetheart,’ he whispered, pulling him close, pressing Jayden’s body against his. ‘I’m so sorry that happened.’ He wiped away Jayden’s tears with his thumb and held him tightly. ‘Baby, don’t cry. Nobody’s going to war, okay? Astrid’s not going to take over the throne. I’ll make sure that doesn’t happen. I knew those board members were bad people, but this..’ he trailed off, voice breaking. ‘This is unacceptable.’
-
Jayden didn't say anything for a while, his arms tight around his boyfriend, still crying. "W-what are you going to do?" He asked quietly, once his crying calmed enough that he could say a normal sentence without stammering like a maniac. He curled up tight next to Chester.
-
Chester looked him in the eye, gently wiping his tears with one hand, the other arm tightly around him. ‘I’m going to give you that land. Then I’m going to read my boring history books all afternoon to try and get rid of those a--holes. Then, we’ll potentially get married, combine our kingdoms, rule together until we die, and descend to heaven then live in the afterlife happily ever after, so it won’t matter the amount of land I gave you. Sound good? How much did they want?’
-
Jayden gave a weak smile, but it quickly left once he said how much land they wanted. "A hundred acres. At least." He mumbled.
