“What is with you and your aversion to eye contact?” Astrid chided. “Little sister? What’s she like?”
Jayd’s jaw dropped. That was so much for him to manipulate him into taking. “What happens if I fail? Same as if I denied the offer?” -
Chester sighed, closing his eyes, then opening them and looking up at Astrid. 'She's dissimilar to me. A lot like my late mother, actually.'
-
“Late mother? How did she die?” Astrid knew it was probably a touchy subject.
Caden nodded. Jayden sighed. -
Chester began fidgeting. 'A-A chandelier fell.'
Caden smirked. 'We want you to succeed by the end of the week. It's Tuesday, so you have 4 days.' -
Astrid raised an eyebrow, the shadow of a small smirk pulling at the ends of his mouth. “Fell? How strange…”
Jayd’s eyes widened. “That’s hardly any time!” He complained. -
'Would you rather war, Jayden? Because that's where this conversation is headed,' Caden said, smirking.
Chester whimpered. 'Y-Yeah.' -
Jayd looked up at Caden. “War?!” He asked in a hushed voice.
“Interesting…” Astrid mused. “Do chandeliers typically just fall in your kingdom? Sounds like shoddy workmanship to me.” -
'Indeed. Or some kind of battle for land,' Caden smirked. 'The treaty means nothing if one side rebels. Treason, maybe, but all for a good cause...'
Chester shook his head. 'Not often, no, but it was fairly old. It was just a matter of time.' He decided he was definitely not going to tell Astrid he was a murderer. What would he do, anyway? -
“What’s the point of a treaty if you’re going to break it a week after making it?” Jayd snapped. “Besides, I’m not battling my boyfriend.”
Astrid had a skeptical look on his face. “I suppose…” Chester was being suspicious, he knew that much, but he’d drop if for now. He had ways to get information from him anyways. -
'Exactly. Which is why you need to manipulate him into giving you land. Preferably more than just 100 acres, but we'll take what we can get. I don't care how you do it, Celeste, just get it done.'
Chester nodded. -
Jayden had lump in his throat, but he nodded. “Fine.” He paused. “And what happens if the reporters find out about this, since some of you can’t keep these things secret once the cameras turn on?”
-
Caden shook his head. 'They won't. However, we can shift the blame onto you if you decide to blurt to everybody.'
Chester sighed. 'What else do you need to know so badly?' -
“I’ve kept everything else quiet, unlike some of you.” Jayden pointed out. “Can I leave now?”
Astrid thought for a bit. “Why are you so clingy over that watch?” -
Caden shook his head. 'Not yet, Celeste. We still have one more thing to discuss.'
Chester clenched his jaw. 'I already told you, didn't I? My father gave it to me before he died.' -
Jayd frowned. “Alright then, get it over with.”
“Well yeah, but you’re possessive over it. You literally offered ANYTHING for it back.” Astrid smirked. “And you best believe I’ll be utilizing that.”
