Jayden’s eyes widened. “No mind control.” He said quietly, elbowing Chester, avoiding eye contact.

Chester’s face paled. ‘W-What?’
Maeve grumbled. ‘Of course you’d try to hypnotise me. Why wouldn’t you?’
Chester growled softly, phoenix wings flexing. ‘What’s gotten into you, Maeve?’ -
Jayd looked back up at the two of them.
“What’s gotten into you?” Maeve shot back, glaring. -
‘Maeve, stop it.’
‘You always do this! You always wriggle your way out of your problems and force them onto other people!’ -
“Both of you, stop.” Jayd mumbled, knowing they probably wouldn’t stop even if he talked louder, so he didn’t. Patton brought the dinner.

Chester stared at her. ‘Maeve, come on…’

Maeve grabbed her plate, glaring at Chester still.

Chester sighed, looking down at his food. Maeve stood up with her food and disappeared. Chester buried his face in his hands.

Jayd looked at him, taking one of his hands. “Why’s she mad?” He asked quietly.

Because my ex kissed me, and I didn’t pull away. I’m also keeping it a secret from you because I’m too clingy and insecure to risk losing you. ‘Nothing. I-It’s nothing.’

“Chester, it’s obviously not nothing.” He wished Chester had those truth pills again.

Chester sighed, thankful he’d forgotten to take the pills today. ‘W-We just had an argument, that’s all. I’ll apologise later.’
