Chester grabbed Jayden's hand. His grandmother glared. 'You had to bring him to dinner?'
'He's human, he needs to eat.' -
Jayden went silent, looking down. I can sit at another table... He shoved the thought away, wanting to be close to Chester more than wanting to please his grandparents.

Chester wrapped an arm around his boyfriend, glaring at his grandmother, who rolled her eyes.
'You're disgusting.'
'I think your hatred for my boyfriend is disgusting.' -
Jayden felt a surge of pride for his boyfriend. He also very much didn't want to be the cause of a fight in the middle of a family reunion.
"Chester. It's fine, really." He murmured, looking up.
(ok but we should have his grandparents call Jayden his partner instead of boyfriend because istg old people do that all the time with gay couples lol (not nonbinary/genderqueer people, like, cis/binary trans same-sex couples lol) -

Maragret wrinkled her nose as Chester kissed the back of his hand. 'It's not, love,' he said softly. 'Nobody has the right to talk to you like that-'
'I can say what I want to your little partner,' Margaret snapped. -

"I don't want a fight." Jayden whispered back to him, though why he was whispering he wasn't sure, since everyone was sitting close to each other anyway. -
'Me neither, but I'm not going to let them talk to you like that,' Chester whispered back.
Henry rolled his eyes. 'Like a f*g like him needs a knight in shining armour.'
'Don't you dare call him that.' -
"I can handle it." Jayden whispered back, leaning into him slightly. His words were immediately disproven. Amazing what being called a f*g can do to your mental health.

Chester ignored Jayden, holding him close tightly. Henry smirked, leaning his chin on his palm. 'What's wrong, f*g?'
Chester looked at Marie expectantly. 'You're not going to do anything about this?'
'Darling, he's just joking around.' -
"Shut up." Jayden said quietly, partly because he didn't want to yell and start a fight and partly because he didn't feel like wasting his energy on him. Maeve kicked Henry under the table, and she had Doc Martin type heavy shoes so they hurt a lot.

Henry glared at Maeve. 'We both know you're a f*g too, Maeve, don't try to-'
'Don't call her that,' Chester snapped, raising his voice. 'I don't care if you call me that, but don't you dare call my sister that.' -

Jayden glared at Henry. He was tempted to make a joke in VERY poor taste that I'm pretty sure the author isn't allowed to say because cough they're not a lesbian (unfortunately) and neither is Jayden, but he didn't. -
(help the unfortunately its okay im a lesbian you can say it-)
Maeve looked down. Henry just chuckled. 'Temper issues much? And I can say whatever I want to you and your stupid little sister. -
(Dude I was so tempted to say "she's a d*ke. If you're going to be rude, at least use the right word, stupid" but like HAHA NO)
Jayden decided to be just a little petty. He turned to Marie. "Get your child under control, please." He gave an polite smile after, like he just asked for her to pass the salt. -
(lmfao dude henry would've just started calling jayden and chester d*kes-)
Marie sighed dramatically, like parenting was a tragedy. 'Henry, don't call your cousins f*gs.'
Henry rolled his eyes.
