Umbreon made another meowing sound and turned his head away. Callum laughed.

Eli set Umbreon down. "Come on, at least pretend you're not the devil!"

Callum chuckled. 'There's no escaping it.'

Umbreon hissed, swinging a claw at Callum's ankle.

Callum jumped away. 'Hey!'

Eli shoved Umbreon away with their foot. "Oi, knock it off!"

Umbreon made a meowing shriek sound and ran away.

"Demon cat." Eli sighed, walking into the kitchen. When their mom was stressed she'd cook- which was a delicious coping mechanism- so there was a LOT of food and dishes cluttering the counter. Eli looked at their mom with a small smile. "You... You were really worried, huh?" They said quietly.

'Of course I was!' Eli's mother exclaimed, starting to clean some dishes. 'You were gone for three days, Eli!'

Eli's smile faded. "I'm sorry." They said in a voice barely above a whisper, trying to help their mom clean up the dishes.

'I'm just glad you're home,' Eli's mother said, then she wrapped them up in a hug again.

Eli hugged her back. "I missed you." They said quietly.

'I missed you too,' she replied softly. Callum smiled and grabbed some leftover pie in a tin and ate it.

Eli smiled. "Alright, can I eat now?"
