'It's against code to tell you, miss. What if you're hiding some kinda dangerous weapon in there? You're probably not, but we can't say anything until we make sure your house is perfectly safe.'
-
"no. get off of my property before i call my husband over here." "i am not letting you two hooligans into my house. especially not with my children around." she shoos them off the front porch and slams the door in their faces
-
'Dang it,' Echo said, turning away from the house. 'I really thought that would work.'
-
"we could have just said that it was my childhood home and that we had questions..." "she probably would have let us in because that sounds a LOT less suspicious."
-
'She doesn't seem the type to let street urchins in her house.'
-
"true, but it would have been less weird." *sign* "at least we tried. i mean, what were we going to find that would help locate my family anyway?"
-
Echo didn't reply. Her mind was elsewhere.
She'd just noticed a wooden hatch in the grass, and began walking over to take a look. -
(what's a hatch? like a secret door?)
-
(ye)
-
"what's that?" Heath asks, wandering over to get a closer look. "no way. we are not breaking in." he says, shocked that Echo would plan such a thing. she was against any other illegal act but breaking and entering was ok?
-
'I'm just looking,' she said, crouching down and knocking on the hatch. There was no answer so she opened it.
It was not an entrance, but a "room" as big as a 15 litre storage container. There was a small shoebox with words Echo couldn't make out in the dark, so she grabbed it and read the note stuck to the lid.
For Heath Bar.
'It's for you!' she exclaimed. -
"what?" he jumps down into the room as well, half confused and half excited. he stares at the letter, scared to find out what it says
-
Echo ripped the note off and checked the back for writing. There was none, so she opened the shoebox. Inside was a letter, a necklace with an emerald pendant and a pocket watch.
'Huh.' -
"open the letter!" he says. his lack of school affected his ability to read large words or detailed paragraphs, so he decided it would be best for Echo to read it
-
Echo took the letter and opened the envelope, then unfolded the piece of paper inside.
'Dear Heath,' she read, 'Your father, sister and I are fleeing Ephery. We're sorry you weren't there when we had to go. We've left to Aramoor, hopefully one day we'll meet again. Sincerely, Mother.' She looked to Heath to see how he would react.
