(deal đź‘Ť)
"why would you have freaked out if he had said "what DID you do?" Carol questions, though knowing the answer.
"well..." "uhm..." not being able to come up with a good response, he looks to Echo for help -
(pleasure doing business with you)
Echo blinked, glancing at Heath then at her mother. 'Well...' she stuttered. 'He's... always been embarrassed that her worked at a barber's shop instead of... something else,' she said, making up something on the spot. -
"yes. that's what it is." "it just seemed like not a very fulfilling job." Heath says, following along with the lie
"hmm..." Carol glares at him. "right then." -
Echo continued eating, it seemed they were off the hook for now.
-
"so Echo," her mother says between bites of food. "would you like to tell us about your relationship?"
-
'Huh?' Echo said, looking up again, 'What about it?'
-
"well you know. your little barber boy here." she casually
gestures to Heath with a spoon, and continues eating. Heath starts having an uncomfortable coughing fit, very awkward in the situation. -
Echo blinked. 'Uhm..' she muttered. 'W-well, we met in the street, and spent a lotta time together, so we just became close, I guess.'
-
"what do you mean met in the street?" she questions. "didn't you two say that you were recruited as the face of his uncle's company?"
-
Echo quickly stuffed some chicken in her mouth to give her time to answer the question. 'He was with his uncle at the time,' she said meekly.
-
"mmhmm," she hums suspiciously, giving her husband the side eye
-
Harold glanced at his wife. 'What?' he asked, mouth full of chicken.
Echo snickered and Harold shot her a look, before looking back to Carol. -
"this hooligan is dating my precious daughter!" she shouts at him. "do you have anything to say on this matter?"
-
Harold raised an eyebrow. 'Your "precious daughter"?' he asked, making finger quotes in the air. 'No I do not,it is none of my concern.'
'He's not a hooligan!' Echo protested. -
"he is a hooligan!" i want you out of my house. if you don't come back either married or without him then don't bother coming back at all!" she stabs a fork into the table with more force than someone would have expected from her.
Heath stands up, "sorry to be a burden ma'am." he bows and walks out the door sadly
