They walked down the stairs and into the dining room, where Carol was setting the table. She didn't acknowledge their presence and in fact looked like she was ignoring the two as they sat down. -
"so. the weather today, it's," he looks out the window to check the weather. "sunny. nice and sunny." "yeah..."
-
'Yup,' Echo said awkwardly. 'Sunny..'
-
"and uh... nice..." "don't forget that it's nice." he says, trying not to burst out into uncomfortable laughter.
-
'It is,' Carol said, though said it in what seemed like a sarcastic way and without looking up, and left the room presumably to get the food.
'This is going to be more awkward than I thought,' Echo murmured. -
"what am i supposed to say?" he asks Echo in a whisper, putting his face on the table.
-
'I don't know!'
-
"i'm gonna mention stew," he says with an evil mischievous grin
-
'Absolutely not.'
(Gtg for Taekwondo, I'll be back in 2 hours) -
"what's so wrong with mentioning stew anyway? i love stew, it's delicious." "now i want stew..." "dang it."
-
'You're not getting stew.'
...
'Now we've said stew too many times. It doesn't sound like a word anymore.' -
"stew stew stew stew stew stew stew." *confusion*
-
'I hate semantic satiation.'
-
"well why can't i say stew? is it some sort of traumatic thing? do your parents not like stew? what's going on?"
-
'It's just that Stew was my father's last name,' Echo muttered, fiddling with her hands. 'And my mother hated his guts.'
