'Wow,' she whispered, holding her hands to her mouth. 'Its beautiful. I didn't realise how lovely a place like this could be.'

(sorry i forgot i haven't answered-)
"well, we've been trapped here for decades. we like scenery too." he says, actually smiling slightly. "this is where i come to think when my father's being pushy. which a lot of the time he's like 'Son, have you been on patrol', 'son, have you checked in with the villagers today' and blah blah blah." he puts on his best Chief voice to mock his father. -
She laughed at that. 'You're lucky you get to do that stuff, though. All I can do is sit and look pretty while the men talk. Girls can't do anything,' she sighed. After a moment, something sparked her curiosity. 'What do you mean by trapped?' she asked.
-
"If we were to go to the surface, we'd most likely get caught by the humans." Oberon shrugs. "So, essentially, we are trapped down here."
-
Wait lemme rewrite that clicked send too early)

"If we were to go to the surface, we'd most likely get caught by the humans." Oberon shrugs. "So, essentially, we are trapped down here." He says, looking behind him quickly at the village then back to her. "down here, every plays their part. The women are the more trusted and are considered to be even stronger then the men."
-
Akari's eyes widened. 'Really? That's so cool!' She looked back to the water, staring at her reflection. If she did stay here, life would be so much more fair. She could actually do stuff without getting yelled at, and speak her mind without getting slapped.
She glanced back to Oberon, curiosity sparking in her eyes once more. 'What exactly did your father mean by a human-elf feud?' -
Oberon sighs, recalling the story one of the village elders told once. "years ago, when the land above was just a colony, we lived with humans above the surface. We lived in villages together, laughed together, we went as far as to call them our brothers. But once they appointed their first king in this land, he ordered us dead. We escaped down here in secret, and never trusted another human." He explains.
-
'Just like that? Even when they were practically best friends?' Akari looked back down into the water. 'But that's not valid, is it? Your father seems to trust me. And if you are telling me about yourself in a kind, honest way, surely you trust me too, right?' She paused for a moment. 'And I'm a human,' she said quietly.
-
"I don't know, you seem... Different. In a good way, though." Oberon shrugs, "my father can judge someone from just the first meeting, and know if they're trustworthy or not." he says. "I don't know why I trust you. Maybe I'm just a trusting person."
-
'I suppose,' she said quietly, thinking. Why was she different? Every girl her age loved the dresses she hated, was fine with rules she thought unfair, and worshipped the King like a god. What made Akari more accepting than the other humans?
-
Oberon sat on the ground, his elbows on his knees as he watched the water flow from the ceiling to the floor. "We still don't know why the king wanted us dead. Maybe he saw us as a threat? Maybe there was one bad elf that ruined something for him?" He shakes his head. "We'll probably never know why."
-
'I know why,' Akari muttered, picking up a small pebble. 'Cos he's a self-absorbed pig.' She threw the rock into the water, then sighed and sat next to Oberon. She didn't say anything for a bit.
-
"So he let the power get to his head." Not a question, a statement. "that's what usually happens." He sighs. "People always want to be looked up to, and they want power as well. Be a king and you get both."
