'I can hear you,' she muttered, flicking her ginger plaits over her shoulders. She wore a cloak that flowed to just below her knees, her big brother's blouse and old pants. The dresses girls were expected to wear were tight and itchy.
'And please can I see it? Your town? The tribe? I hate the human town. I won't tell!' she pleaded. She'd dreamer of seeing elves and loving among them. She couldn't let this opportunity slip away. -
the companion sighs, then nods to Oberon. "We're taking you to my father, the Chief of the elves. and he won't be forgiving that you have intruded upon our home." Oberon says.
-
'Woah,' she muttered, taking a step back. 'I'm a child! What could I possibly do?' Akari argued. She must've looked like a snooty white person intruding on their land. After a moment, she sighed. 'I'm sorry for yelling. I didn't know it was your land.'
-
"it does not matter. you are human." Oberon says. "come." he beckons for her to follow them deeper into the cave. the cave opened up to reveal a giant city-like colony. "this way." He led her through the streets, elves seeing Akari and gasping that there was a human in their midst.
-
She felt really uncomfortable with everybody staring. Then again, it wasn't much different than the human town. Everybody knew her as the crazy girl who still believes in magic. Maybe the chief dude would accept her and let her go back? Or better yet, live amongst the elves? It would be so nice. They eventually got to a small hut made of branches and leaves.
Inside was a tall man with long hair flowing to his waist and long elf ears. 'Cool,' she whispered, fiddling with one of her braids. -
"son." he boomed. "why have you brought this human into our midst?" he asks Oberon. "she was found at the mouth of the cave. we led her here before she caused anything. she has done nothing against us at the moment, so for now she is not a threat. how do you accept her?" Oberon explains. "hm... not a threat? that seems unlikely. but since you haven't done anything wrong, i will see to it that you have a guard accompany you back to the cave mouth." His father tells Akari. "but father, she knows too much. she could tell the humans and they could attack!" Oberon protests. "an even more pressing matter..." his father thinks for a moment. "you may stay here. i believe it is time the human-elf feud ended, and you could be the start of it. wherever you go, there will be a guard with you, preferably my son, since he has apparently already gotten used to you enough to not be afraid."
-
Akari's mouth dropped open. She was expecting yelling or even violence, not acceptance.
Then she sighed. It would be amazing if elves and humans could live together. 'Sorry Mr Chief Sir, but please don't be so hasty to make friends with humans. The adults are wicked. They hit children and they hate people who are different. The King would laugh at your attempts to make peace and wage war for the fun of it. I-I don't want anybody getting hurt,' she said, fiddling with the strap of her brown leather bag. She was glad the elf chief wasn't mad at her. -
"well, do you want to go home?"the Chief asks her. "if not, you are welcome to stay here." he says.
-
Akari looked down at her feet, refusing to look him in the eye. 'I...' she whispered, but didn't say anything more.
-
"it is completely up to you, young one." He says. "you don't have to answer right away, and you can change your choice at any time." Oberon huffed and the Chief glared at him. "Oberon, how about you show this human around our small world while she makes up her mind?" he says. "yes, Father." he says. he looks at Akari and gestures for her to follow him.
-
She followed Oberon out of the small hut and through the town. 'Why are they all staring?' she asked him, watching as some women pulled their children close and the men reached for the spears. Akari made a squeaking sound and stayed close to the elf.
-
"there hasn't been a human in our village in decades, maybe even centuries. they don't know what to expect when they see one wandering around their home." he says, "do not worry, the Chief has decreed that this human may be allowed to live among us." he reassured his people. "i just realized, i never got your name." he looks at her in curiosity.
-
'Akari,' she said, smiling. 'What's your name?'
Most of the elves were still staring. Akari pulled her over her head, covering her ears. -
Akari pulled her cloak's hood over her head**
-
"Oberon. nice to meet you, Akari." Oberon says. "oh, here's my favorite place in our village, up ahead." the village houses stopped, and there, ahead of them, a giant waterfall from a river somewhere above fell from the top of the wall to a small pool at the bottom, with moss growing around the water's edge.
