"So then why have you been so nice to me?" she asked, glancing over at him. -
Blaze clears his throat, glancing at Claire as well. "i really don't know."

"Oh," Claire said. she was silent for a few moments. She adjusted the short sleeves on her dress to try and cover more skin to keep in a little more warmth. "Well, I'm glad," she said. "It must be hard to scare everybody away, but you haven't scared me."

Blaze smiled, then noticed Claire trying to warm up, and shrugs off his jacket. "here, do you want this?"

Claire blinked in surprise at his offer. "No, you'll get cold then," she said as she tried to bring his jacket back up to his shoulders.

"i insist. i'm not cold, it's fine." Blaze says, raising an eyebrow.

"I - Ok," Claire gave in. She took the jacket he gave and put it on, moving her red curls to be outside the jacket rather than pressed against her back. Immediately she felt filled with warmth and coziness. "Thank you," she said. "The shortcut is right here, we'll be there in about five minutes."
She walked off the sidewalk and into the trees. There was a path on the ground from being trodden on often. -
Blaze follows her, careful not to hit his head on the branches overhead. "so... what's your favorite fruit?" he says, a poor attempt at making conversation.

Claire laughed at his attempts. "Strawberries, definitely," she said. "And you?"

"Blueberries and cherries are tied for me." Blaze shrugs, shaking his head.

"Those are good options," she said. "Although I prefer blueberries if they're cooked, like in a pie. And cherries I like better raw than cooked."

"both are better raw to me." Blaze smiles. "cherry pie is really good, though."

"Apple is the winner and you can't change my mind," Claire said. Then they were out of the trees and in someone's backyard. And soon enough they were on the sidewalk again.
"My house is down there," she pointed down the block in the distance. -
"okay." Blaze keeps stride beside her, determined to walk her all the way to her house.

And then they were quiet, walking in comfortable silence the rest of the way. "This is me," she said, gesturing to a medium-sized house with blue siding. She began walking up the driveway, not expecting him to follow.
